After four long years of slumber, General Hospital's Lulu Spencer (Alexa Havins) has finally emerged from her coma in a miraculous way. Not only is she awake and fully coherent, but she's walking and talking as if she hasn't been lying still since 2020.
Does Sam's liver have special powers?
A brain injury-induced coma isn't the only medical problem Lulu has had over the last four years. She also just had a liver transplant thanks to Sam (Kelly Monaco) sacrificing her life to give Lulu a part of her liver. Magically, Lulu's eyes opened for the first time just as Sam was buried. Her feats of strength, as she was able to lift her hand to her head and lift her body out of bed within an hour of awakening, had GH fans talking. Some even believe that Sam's liver is an organ of champions, giving Lulu feats of strength one never imagined.

"I know Sam was a badass, but who knew her liver had magical healing powers that allow Lulu to run all over right out of a years-long coma," X user @JenniferEWatts wrote. She compared Lulu's situation to that of Days of our Lives' Jennifer (Melissa Reeves), who awoke from a year-long coma in 2019 — or rather 2020 in Salem time as this was a part of DAYS' famous time jump plot by saying, "Again Jen on #days was in a coma for a year and didn't get out of bed for a month or go home for another month."
@teresacarol70 hopes Lulu takes extra special care of Sam's liver as she travels around Port Charles without medical supervision. "If Lulu's not careful she's going to lose her new Sam liver," she warned.
General Hospital coma goals
Everything about Lulu's miraculous recovery — from suddenly not needing a ventilator to the staff at Turning Wood not noticing she is no longer comatose — has fans both laughing and lamenting.
"Not that I want to ever be in a coma, let alone a four-year coma, but Lulu Spencer is coma goals," wrote @carlyonsports. "I mean, look at her! Four years and a liver transplant later, and she's literally standing."
@IrisDorbian finds the whole story to be comical, but she is still enjoying it.
"The Lulu story on #GH is hilarious," she tweeted. "She just came out of a four-year coma — BTW with great muscle tone and fabulous pearly white teeth. Even with a few minor aches, she was able to find clothes that fit her perfectly and escape the hospital all within hours of waking from a coma."
The fact that Cyrus (Jeff Kober) is the only family member visiting Lulu also has the audience asking questions.
"Are we supposed to believe that Laura hasn't been going to visit Lulu at all after all of the hoopla w/the transplant surgery?" @SharinVA asked. "Or Lucky? And if they did, wouldn't the facility employees mention to HER MOTHER OR BROTHER that Uncle Cyrus has been hovering w/plans to move her?"
Let's get this show on the road
Some GH fans are willing to suspend their disbelief for this plot because at least we don't have to watch Lulu slowly recover for weeks as Lulu gets back into life with ease and speed.
"I honestly love that they went this route with Lulu's return over her waking up and people slowly visiting her in a hospital room," @jessren tweeted. "It lets the character regain her personality and agency faster and move into something more dynamic. Worth suspending disbelief for, IMO."
Others are just happy to be along for the ride, no matter how fantastical the ride is.
"So Lulu has escaped and is flagging someone down for help," wrote @SoapyHousewife. "Well good for her for getting out of there. Far fetched? Sure. But let’s roll with it. Lol Hopefully it’s not Cyrus she’s flagging down."
Sometimes, a soap has to take some liberties to get a plot going. With Lulu back in action within hours (in Port Charles time), it appears that is what GH has chosen to do.
