It's criminals, criminals everywhere on General Hospital and has been for years, but it seems that the chickens are finally coming home to roost as Port Charles' most prolific and beloved criminal faces his own mortality.
Grandparent problems

Longtime fans will remember that Sonny and Laura's friendship goes back to the early 1990s when, together with Brenda and Luke, they took down Frank Smith in Puerto Rico. They then returned home so Sonny and Luke could open a nightclub. Sonny was trying to be a legitimate businessman at the time, but that didn't work out quite as planned.
Now, Sonny and Laura are no longer with Brenda and Luke, but they do share a grandson and a rich history that actually seemed to be ignored last year. It seemed odd when Anna and Laura suddenly turned against Sonny when the show spent so much time building up these lasting friendships between two relatively law-abiding (and enforcing) women and the town mobster. Maybe it was the friendships that seemed odd, but they were long and established, and something the audience enjoyed. However, sometimes life catches up with you, and that is exactly what is happening to Sonny right now.
Mayor Laura wants to preserve and honor her friendship with Mobster Sonny, but a mayor in bed with the mob isn't a good look, to say the least. Laura is doing everything she can to remain impartial when it comes to Sonny's waterfront property, but perhaps Felicia might be right. Are we looking for Sonny's ticket out of the mob?
Sonny already told Jason he wanted out, but had no idea how to do it when he learned he had a heart condition. Then, someone bombed his apartment and nearly killed Michael, so Sonny was sucked right back in to the life he has always known. However, his heart condition hasn't gone anywhere. Will Laura inadvertently cause Sonny to go legit, as he tried to do with Laura and Luke all those years ago? Now THAT would be a full circle moment that would cause a New York earthquake.
Who's to say who the criminals are?

As has to happen every few years, Sonny has another enemy in town. In 2020, Cyrus Renault arrived to make Sonny's life a living hell. In 2024, Jenz Sidwell was brought in just as Cyrus was slowly on his way out. But is Sidwell a criminal if he has never technically been charged with a crime?
Is anyone really a criminal if they have spent most of their life doing ruthless and illegal things but getting away with it? Some would say no and want that person in charge of everything because committing crimes and not getting caught makes you savvy, right? In the case of Sidwell, it means your son still loves you and looks the other way.
And heck, if you have a charming personality and lots of cash to throw around, you can rival your rival with who can donate the most money to the Nurses' Ball. Sonny and Sidwell are philanthropists, so that makes everything else they do okay. Okay? Glad we've set that straight on GH this week.
Electing a convicted felon

The people of the New York congressional district where Port Charles is located decided they didn't care about anyone's criminal record when they elected him to higher office. After all, Drew Cain was charming with a lot of money to throw around — at least for the cameras. The voters clearly didn't realize just how gross their insider trading new congressman could be.
Sometimes cult leaders have that effect, and there is no denying that Drew is indeed a cult leader. Is he really cult leader Shiloh in disguise, as some fans suspect? Or, is Drew just Drew, leading his own one-woman cult made up of Shiloh's most prized disciple, the idiot now known as Willow Tait Corinthos, but who Shiloh knew as Callie Miller?
Willow really is a special one, caring so much about keeping custody of her kids, while signing them over to the weird guy who didn't save her life in Greenland after she neglected to treat her cancer. ("It's now stage 4? HOW?!?!?")
So, yeah, Drew is an actual criminal, also getting away with it all, and is now coming after Port Charles' premier female politician. What we want to see are his approval numbers vs. Laura's...
Alexis, your daughter is a criminal...and still nuts

Alexis thinks that one night of Noodle Buddha and a few group hugs mean that her nutjob daughter Kristina can just go on with life as if she didn't cut the brakes on a car, nearly killing two people. Kristina certainly seems to think so as she flits around town with a smile, attending birthday parties. She feels bad for what she did, so that makes it all okay.
Alexis had that super strong moment last Friday when she decided to have Kristina committed, but then caved overnight, enraging Diane...and fans. Now, she is going to be paying Ava all that Cassadine cash indefinitely, waiting for Kristina to strike again...and she will. No doubt.
Okay, okay, Molly and Cody are cute

We have had mixed feelings about Molly and Cody from the start. With GH taking it very, very slowly with this new potential pair, it's been hard to form a clear-cut opinion about them. They were cute on the roof, and we were pleased when Cody went to bat for Molly with Ric. However, the scenes with the horse were perfect. We weren't sure when the little preview aired on Wednesday and we saw Cody atop a horse, but the scenes turned out to be an absolute delight.
First, we learned that independent woman Molly doesn't know how to change a spare tire on her Toyota Rav4. (This writer has the same exact car!) Then, we learned she's never ridden a horse, which does seem par for the course with her Type A personality. When Cody finally got Molly to saddle up and go, we finally saw their chemistry and hope there is much more to come — and often.
Lois, you dope

We love Lois, we really do, but oh my did Lois blow it this week when she made a point of gushing to Lulu about how generous Sonny has always been to Gio, paying for his education, his music lessons, setting up a trust... Lulu tried not to think anything of it because she knew how her father-in-law could be, but that planted the seed.
When Gio then announced he was born in Los Angeles while his mother was traveling for work, Lulu pretty much put the pieces together. Now, why would Lois talk up Sonny and Gio to the one person outside her family who knows that Brook Lynn gave birth to a baby while on the road in Los Angeles with her mother? Cause she's a big dope, that's why.
The healthiest marriage on soaps?

In just one month, it will be a year since Brook Lynn and Chase took their vows. Amazingly, they are still going strong and have conquered every single problem in their lives together. Marriages like this are not supposed to be a thing on soaps, but we'll take it. Let BLQ and Chase dare to be different. It's refreshing and we want more of it.
Port Charles Odds and Ends

GH has the most realistic teens on soaps. While Gio is not exactly a teen, we will lump him in with the teen boy crowd since he lives with two of them. Watching Gio, Rocco, and Danny sit around with their phones in front of them, scrolling social media and hashtags, felt like any moment with teens over the last decade or more.
What the heck, Natalia? After all this time keeping Sonny's secret, you caved to Sidwell in one 30-second scene??? No wonder Sonny dumped you as soon as he found out who your ex was.
How long can Josslyn keep up her Easter Island lies? Until Emma mentions that she was also there, but not really there? Probably.
Wasn't it lovely when Marco reminded Alexis that she also comes from an unsavory family and changed her last name, barely ever mentioning that her father was Mikkos Cassadine? Maybe Alexis needs to retreat to her corner before calling people out about their family ties and lies again...
Till next week, Scoopers, when Sonny has his surgery, and it's anyone's guess what goes wrong. (Something is bound to go wrong, and we all know it.)
