Battle of the deadbeat dads: General Hospital Two Scoops for the week of October 7, 2024

This past week on General Hospital, two Port Charles fathers seemed to be in competition for the Deadbeat Dad Award. Who should win?

Luckless man-child Lucky loses it

Lucky's return started off so well. He knew he didn't do right by Aiden in the past, but their reunion tugged at the heartstrings. Lucky easily accepted that his son was gay, told him he loved him unconditionally, and promised not to leave town without saying goodbye. Then, he got bad news and reverted to form. And Lucky's form? It's just ungood and apparently, nothing has changed over the last decade.

As soon as Lucky learned that his liver couldn't save Lulu, the man-child Lucky has always been came out in full force. Would you like to be enjoying a BLT at Bobbie's, only to have a disheveled man in need of a shower burst in and order you to leave? That can't be good for business, and Josslyn pointed that out. Since Josslyn has never minced words with anyone, we were thrilled that she was the one who found Lucky after he trashed the family diner. Lucky got the word beating he deserved for his little stunt.

However, Lucky wasn't done. His next stop was Jason's coffee beans warehouse, where he prepared to break his promise to his son already. Lucky can't save Lulu? Well, that means he needs to skip town and head back to Africa without saying goodbye to anyone. Jason did his best to talk Lucky out of it but relented and handed Luke's son an envelope of cash and wished him well.

Jason even had some good points. How could Lucky leave his teenage son behind again? Jason had his regrets about all the time he spent away from his sons, and he didn't want Lucky to feel the same one day. But then...

Jason's self-awareness takes a holiday

How nice of Jason to warn Lucky how wrong it was to abandon your kids, but that didn't mean Jason wouldn't do the same thing again, all for the sake of Carly and Sonny. Um, didn't we just do this? Didn't Jason just spend nearly three years away from his sons just so Carly wouldn't go to jail for a crime she actually committed?

As Jason stood there and told Diane he would rather be the one in prison so Sonny could walk free, we were ready to reach through the screen and throttle him. Thankfully, Diane put him in his place and reminded Jason that he had two sons who needed him. How did Jason forget about them between Lucky's visit and Diane's visit? Maybe Lucky and Jason should take some lessons on how not to be a deadbeat dad from a cold-blooded killer mafia kingpin.

Sonny knows how it goes

Sonny may be Port Charles' premier criminal, but he always has that soft spot for his kids and baby mamas (unless her name is Ava Jerome). After decades of criming throughout Port Charles, Sonny was ready to tell the FBI everything as long as his daughter didn't end up in jail and her mother could be released from jail. Even Alexis was touched that he would give it all up for the sake of her freedom.

See, Jason and Lucky? This is how it's done. Even if you shoot unarmed men point-blank in the chest, you never forget your kids. And if the going gets rough, you don't run away. Instead, you go to jail. (Of course, Sonny won't go to jail because of a ninth-inning save in the form of a gun, but it's the thought that counts, right?)

Alexis also had some good points when discussing the Sonny situation. Sonny would be confessing to a crime he actually committed, something Dante, Kristina, and Michael don't seem to understand as they rush to protect him.

Speaking of Michael, what was that weird look he gave Anna as he ushered Kristina out of Anna's office? Why is he always so arrogant as he hypocritically commits crimes and judges everyone around him?

Think of Laura

After all that, it looks as if Lucky is sticking around, anyway, because his mother asked him to. Maybe if Laura had asked Lucky to stick around in 2015, Aiden could have grown up with a father.

Too bad Laura coddled her big middle-aged man-child son, telling him that it was okay to abandon his only child for years on end because he was like his father. That shouldn't be a compliment, considering the hot mess Luke was while his kids were growing up. Laura should have summoned her inner Josslyn and read Lucky for filth, because he truly deserved it.

Give us "Jackly"

We admit it. We are hooked. Carly finally has a pairing that works after that disastrous try with Drew that bored us to tears and found Drew behind bars. We never bought that Carly could ever be attracted to Drew, but we definitely buy that she'd be intrigued by a cunning secret agent man with an Australian accent. Jack Brennan is right up Carly's alley. He is suave, dangerous, has a Jasper Jacks accent, and is always willing to help her out of a jam.

At least Carly's non-Sonny romantic life is more palatable than Sonny's non-Carly romantic life. GH has to stop trying to make fetch happen with Sonny and Natalia because they are as boring as Carly and Drew. We still don't understand why Sonny and Nina broke up, but here we are. At this point, maybe Sonny just needs to reunite with Alexis all these years later, since he was willing to go to jail for her. We never saw him willing to go to jail for Carly. (Personally, we want Brenda Barrett back, but we won't hold our breath.)

Making our way around Port Charles

Brad figured it all out | Image Source: ABC

Brad figured out Portia's secret, and Brad is still Brad, which means...Portia is in some big trouble. While we don't blame Portia for what she did, we know the fallout will be fun with Brad involved.

GH acknowledged that Lucas and Ava are related via Julian. Can the show also acknowledge that Lucas and Sam are related via Julian? Before she dies? Please?

Why is Violet still a thing? Sure, she is adorable, but the only real tie this child had to the canvas was her father, a man who is in rehab. We know Finn isn't returning to Port Charles, so will he take his daughter with him wherever he goes when his rehab stint ends? Something tells us no, which means Brook Lynn and Chase's newlywed life will involve being called to the principal's office again. Can Violet's mother make her way back to town and whisk her away? Does Violet even remember that she has a mom? Does anyone remember? Also, someone explain why Tracy sent a lawyer to defend a suspended ten-year-old. That was weird, and not in a good and funny way.

Does Lulu's liver story seem like a retelling of Willow's bone marrow story? The most logical donor was not a match, but someone semi-random will be a match. And if that semi-random person is not Sam, then GH isn't a soap opera. (We still hate that Sam is about to die just as Lulu wakes, but at least it will bring the drama.)

Anna and Jason have decided to pretend that kiss never happened. Since that's what the audience is doing, we hope they stick to their word. 'Cause it never should have happened. Never. Ever.

Speaking of kisses, it's been two weeks since James dropped the bomb that he knew Willow kissed Drew. Ned was understandably shocked, but where's the follow-up? The revelation is kind of a big deal, but now we have to wait weeks to see if Ned will even do something with this perfect blackmail information.

Wait until Josslyn realizes her cop boyfriend can't seem to stay away from the pretty young assistant district attorney. This won't go well for Dex or Molly. But, it will go well for us because we get a mess. Imagine if Dex and Molly sleep together and she gets pregnant. That mess will be out of control—but everything we could hope for as soap fans.

Since when has Mac been so angry at Holly? He invited her to have some breakfast at Maxie's house and left her there alone. We understand that he doesn't want Holly to break Robert's heart again, but he's a bit over the top at this point.

Thankfully, we didn't have to watch Drew stalk Willow this week, so thank the soap gods for small favors. We're sure that creepy and disturbing story will be back by next week. At least bring Nina back with them. And let her learn just how ewwww her congressional candidate lover really is. With an election in just three weeks, Drew needs a scandal, and lusting after a mother and her daughter certainly fits the bill.
