The General Hospital couple known as "Carson" has been around the marriage block several times before. The first time Sonny and Carly wed, they took vows so Carly wouldn't be forced to testify against Sonny for crimes she knew he had committed. Is the same thing about to happen again?
Sonny and Carly's last breakup
Sonny and Carly managed to stay married from 2015 until 2023, which was a record for this couple that can't seem to stop taking trips down the aisle. Sure, they nearly divorced a little over a year later, after their son Morgan was killed, but for the most part, they managed to keep it together.
Then, Sonny was presumed dead for nine months. While Sonny lived with amnesia in Nixon Falls and fell in love with Nina, Carly took her chance to finally marry Jason. Sonny returned on Jason and Carly's wedding night, quickly ending the "Jarly" marriage.
However, when Carly learned Sonny had developed feelings for Nina in Nixon Falls, she needed some space. Sonny ended up in bed with Nina, Carly walked in on them, and that was the end of their eight years of wedded semi-bliss.
Another General Hospital marriage of convenience
Over the last year, Sonny and Carly have made peace with one another and emerged as friends. Sonny even ended his marriage to Nina after learning Nina was the one who had turned Carly in to the SEC for insider trading. Still, they were determined to stay away from romance.
Now that Sonny murdered an unarmed FBI agent and turned Carly into his alibi, "Carson" could end up back at square one and marry again so Carly doesn't have to testify against Sonny. They are already faking an affair as part of the cover, so why not go all the way to keep Sonny out of jail for killing John?
When Sonny suggested another marriage of convenience to Carly, she immediately balked and declared she would never marry Sonny again. He even agreed it would be a bad idea. However, never is a strong word and doesn't mean much on soaps. Diane could advise them that it's in their best interest to be husband and wife, so they may reconsider their stance.
With Carly and Sonny both decidedly single at the moment, Carly could become Mrs. Corinthos again at any time. What would Natalia think about that, considering how fond she is of Port Charles's dapper don?
