Tamara Braun admits she "really struggled" with her General Hospital exit storyline

General Hospital's Tamara Braun (ex-Kim Nero) opens up about her departure from the ABC soap opera, which seems to have concerned her just as much as it did fans.

General Hospital viewers were crushed to see the exit of Tamara Braun in the role of Kim Nero last month, not only because the actress is a fan favorite, but also because the character's farewell storyline was a bit odd, to say the least.

Viewers watched grief destroy Kim, with the character doing unspeakable things like drugging and attempting to rape Drew Cain (Billy Miller) after the death of the couple's son, Oscar (Garren Stitt), and entering into a relationship with "Drew," who was really Franco (Roger Howarth).

"I really struggled with that story point, because to me, it wasn't even a story point, because it wasn't explored," Braun laments in a recent issue of Soap Opera Digest. "I felt that if those were going to be story points that were going to take place, then it needed to be an issue that they explored with intention and handled with care. This is no longer the day where rape turns into everlasting love. And it shouldn't be. So, for me, I had concerns on a personal level, on a human level."

Despite the unsatisfactory ending, Braun enjoyed her time back on GH and shared with fans on social media that she was sorry to see her time in Port Charles come to a close.

"Wish I was staying," she tweeted back in November. "But thrilled I got the time I did."

As for her future career, the actress says she would be more than happy to continue on in the genre -- whether on GH or any of the other daytime dramas.

"Soap has been a big part of my life," she tells SOD. " It's a medium I know well, and soap fans follow people; they've always followed an actress they like, so I've been fortunate in that respect when I've gone to different shows."

Braun originally joined GH as Carly Corinthos, which she played from 2001 to 2005 and again in 2014. She returned to the series in 2017 as Kim Nero, as Laura Wright now plays the role of Carly. Braun's additional soap credits include All My Children's Reese Williams (2008 to 2009), Days of our Lives' Taylor Walker (2011) and Ava Vitali (2008, and again from 2015 to 2016).
