Réal Andrews out at GH, soap briefly casts Asante Jones as Taggert

An as-yet-undisclosed reason has taken Réal Andrews away from General Hospital; the ABC soap opera has found another actor to temporarily play the role of Marcus Taggert.

General Hospital viewers will soon be seeing a new face in the role of Marcus Taggert. Soap Opera Digest reports that portrayer Ral Andrews has had to step away from the ABC soap opera, and actor Asante Jones will be taking his place.

No reason has been given for Andrews' absence, but IMDb lists Jones's debut episode as Thursday, December 17.

Andrews began playing troubled-kid-turned-policeman Taggert back in 1997 and appeared on occasion until 2003. He returned to GH in January of 2020 but was "killed off" a short time later -- only to return once again in an August storyline that revealed that the character had faked his death so he could go underground in an effort to catch Cyrus (Jeff Kober).

Jones is new to daytime, but he is an accomplished actor with many projects on his rsum. Some of his credits include Sunset, Hawaii Five-0, Scandal, Rosewood, Hot in Cleveland, Chemistry, and Strong Medicine.

His last Instagram post teases a new project that he says he "can't WAIT" for fans to see. "God is loving on me right now, in ways that I can see, feel and touch," he writes.
