ANOTHER GH star suffers injury, bringing total to five health maladies this year

An ankle sprain has General Hospital actress Paulina Bugembe (Valerie Spencer) stuck in a boot for the next three to six weeks. She's the fifth -- yes fifth -- GH star to suffer an injury this year.

Let's hope 2020 is a healthier year for General Hospital stars, because 2019 has put several of the ABC soap's performers through the wringer! Four GH actors have already suffered injuries this year, and Paulina Bugembe (Valerie Spencer) has become the fifth. She recently sprained her ankle and will be on the mend until Christmastime.

The actress took to Instagram with the news of her injury, writing, "Good news! MRI is clear! Not as good news: gotta wear the boot for three [to] six weeks. Ankle sprain; but make it FASHION!"

Bugembe goes on to say she is grateful that she has health insurance and that she feels bad for those who aren't as fortunate. In response to a fan comment, she also reveals that she will not need surgery and should be as good as new by the end of the year.

Bugembe follows four other GH actors who have had to face some sort of recovery this year. Kirsten Storms hurt her hand while playing on a Slip 'N' Slide this summer, Laura Wright (Carly Corinthos) broke her foot just before a trip to Prague, Leslie Charleson (Monica Quartermaine) had to have hand surgery, and Kin Shriner (Scott Baldwin) had to ride a scooter on-screen as a way to keep filming at GH while recovering from foot surgery.

Bugembe joined GH earlier this year when Brytni Sarpy vacated the role of Valerie to play Elena Dawson on The Young and the Restless. Her other credits include NCIS, Reverie, and The Good Place. Her latest project is the thriller film Motel, which she cowrote and also stars in. The movie is set to make its premiere at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles this December.
