Freeform has cast General Hospital's Sean Blakemore (ex-Shawn Butler) in the pilot for Close Up, a twisty drama likened to How to Get Away with Murder.
Big roles keep coming for General Hospital alum Sean Blakemore (ex-Shawn Butler). Hot on the heels of his appearance in the Brad Pitt blockbuster Ad Astra comes news that the Emmy-winning actor has booked a major role in the pilot episode of Freeform's Close Up.
Deadline reports that Blakemore has joined the hourlong suspense drama pilot that is being executive produced by How to Get Away with Murder creator Peter Nowalk and Mary Rohlich. He joins cast members Fivel Stewart, Anthony Keyvan, Karin Konoval, Jennifer Spence, Yaani King Mondschein, Megan Charpentier, Alexander Grant, Van Crosby, and Millicent Simmonds.
Close Up is set in Centreville, NJ, a suburban town just like any other... at least on the surface. Centreville high school student Rachel Guyer (Stewart) is on a mission to expose the truth about her seemingly normal hometown and turn her community inside out. Blakemore has taken on the role of Sheriff Griff, whose investigation into a recent event forces him to decide between his duty to his town and his obligation to the law.

Deadline states that in the vein of HTGAWM, the character-driven Close Up features unexpected twists and is about the strength behind one young woman's act of rebellion and its impact on changing the world.
Blakemore joined the cast of General Hospital as Shawn in 2011 and played the character until 2015, when Shawn was sent to prison to allow for the actor's exit. Blakemore won a Daytime Emmy in the Outstanding Supporting Actor category in 2016. Since leaving GH, Blakemore has landed roles in a slew of noteworthy series like Devious Maids, American Crime, The Quad, 13 Reasons Why, Lethal Weapon, and Greenleaf. He also has films like One Crazy Christmas and Spinning Man on his post-daytime rsum.
