Fans are worried that Kathleen Gati may be permanently pulled away from General Hospital for a role in a new project, but should viewers really be worried about Dr. Liesl Obrecht disappearing for good?
Rumors have been circulating that fan favorite General Hospital actress Kathleen Gati (Dr. Liesl Obrecht) has been cast in a new series that might affect her recurring status at the ABC soap opera. But daytime fans can hold off on the shock and terror for now, because she says the gossip is absolutely untrue.
"Heads up! Just read on social media that I've been cast on a new series. That's news to me," she shares on Twitter. "I have been asked to participate in a pilot for a potential project. But nothing more at this time. Stay tuned."

Gati has been playing the role of GH's Dr. Obrecht since 2012. The recurring character is the mother of Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud), who recently returned to Port Charles. Dr. Obrecht has taken a backseat on the canvas, following the character's arrest just before GH went off the air in the spring due to the coronavirus pandemic, but Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) recently aired his thoughts on the possibility of the doc having been framed by Anna (Finola Hughes) or Peter (Wes Ramsey), so who knows what the future will bring!
Though Gati hasn't booked a new series, the actress says that she's been busy the past few months, nonetheless. She shared during a recent episode of the podcast Excelsior Journeys with George Sirois that she has been writing a cookbook!
"It's not a cookbook like, 'Oh, these are special recipes.' It's called Recipes of my Life, but it could be My Life in Recipes -- I'm playing with the title," she shares. "It's recipes from when I was a kid and the things my mom made and the things that triggered my memories... I call it emotional eating, like the smell, what does that conjure up, the feelings? So, it's talking about my life, my childhood, growing up, traveling. I had a restaurant and a cookie business in Hungary when I lived there as an actress, and I always wanted to have a bakery. I come from four generations of artists, performing artists, and bakers. So, it's in my blood!"
During her podcast chat, the actress also briefly touches on her All My Children character, Taffy Winslow (who she accidentally calls "sweet" -- when the character was anything but!), some of her other early acting memories, and how cool soap opera fans are. So, be sure to listen, and don't forget to check back to Soap Central for updates about Gati and her career as they come.
