Genie Francis' return to GH kicks off with a bang

Genie Francis is officially back on set at General Hospital, meaning Laura Spencer's big storyline is right around the corner.

Fall is on its way, and it couldn't have come at a better time, because General Hospital fans are going to "fall" in love with what's coming their way: Genie Francis is back on set, and a Laura-centric storyline is coming along with her.

News of the actress' return to the ABC soap opera broke in late July, and viewers have been on pins and needles, waiting for the veteran performer's return to Port Charles. And while there's still a wait to see Laura on-screen, Francis shared that she returned to the set today -- which means that the big Laura storyline GH execs have been promising is in the making!

Fans are super excited that the actress is back to work. In fact, Francis was thrilled to find that her dearest followers arranged to have flowers and balloons waiting for her when she returned to the studio.

"Look at the beautiful flowers and balloons that were in my dressing room when I returned to work at General Hospital!" the actress shared on social media along with a photo of the welcome back surprise. "A special thank u to the Genie Is GH fans!"

As Soap Central readers may recall, Francis was unceremoniously let go from the show in January -- a move that did not go over well with fans. Luckily, GH rectified the situation, with executive producer Frank Valentini announcing earlier this summer: "I'm really excited for Genie to be rejoining the cast. We have an amazing story for her."

Laura has been absent from the canvas most of this year, having dropped out of the mayoral race to take care of her grandson Spencer (Nicholas Bechtel). The powers that be are staying silent about the details of what exactly brings the (somewhat) new Mrs. Kevin Collins (Kevin is played by Jon Lindstrom) back to the canvas, but ABC executive Nathan Varni promises that it will be "damn good."

Speaking of Lindstrom, he also shared that he's back to work at GH now the soap has ended its summer break.

"Break time is over. Time to get to it," he tweeted along with a silly video of himself back on set.

As for Francis and her return, she says: "I'm looking forward to coming home and I am really excited about this new invigorating storyline they have for Laura -- I look forward to the next chapter of this prolific and historic character."
