Everything between General Hospital's Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) and Nina (Cynthia Watros) has been blown to pieces, but that doesn't mean it's totally over for the complicated lovebirds.
Some soap opera couples stand the test of time, no matter what twists and turns the powers that be may throw at them throughout the years. But will General Hospital's Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) and Nina (Cynthia Watros) be one of those couples? Stuart says he certainly thinks so.
In a new interview with TV Insider, the actor points out that even though the characters aren't together now due to Valentin's mischievous ways and lying nature, there is no denying that they are deeply connected.
"It goes back to when he first confided in Nina about his loneliness, isolation, and physical abnormality. She's witnessed his speech impediment. And she loved him all the more," Stuart explains. "He's never been able to fathom not having her in his life. She's the love of his life."

Unfortunately, Nina has moved on with hunky Jax (Ingo Rademacher), but Stuart doesn't think that will stop Valentin from trying to reunite with his ex in the future.
"He can accept that Jax is a shiny object, but he can't accept that he's a permanent fixture in her life. It's why he wanted to lay the foundation of a new empire for himself," Stuart says, referencing Valentin's latest takeover of ELQ. "As soon as he took over ELQ, the first person he wanted to tell was Nina."
But fans shouldn't hope for a reunion anytime soon, no matter what Nina's relationship status is; Stuart says Valentin needs further punishment for his misdeeds before they have a real chance of reconciling.
"Valentin's apologized from a place of true understanding that he's hurt her. He's been the architect of his own adversity," he explains. "I think he's willing to take the pain of watching her with someone else as penance. He deserves that, but I don't think he'll ever be truly done with Nina. It's like that [Sting lyric from his song "The Book of My Life"] -- 'There's a chapter on love where the ink's never dry.'"
