General Hospital dropped a major bombshell on Thursday when Nikolas Cassadine was revealed to be alive and well -- and enjoying a cold beer in a cabin in the woods.
General Hospital viewers got a huge surprise at the end of the Thursday, Aug 31, 2023, episode when Austin Gatlin-Holt (Roger Howarth) carried out one last assignment for his crime family by visiting a cabin in the woods where Nikolas Cassadine was hidden. Nikolas was alive and presumably well in the form of Adam Huss.
Huss is no stranger to General Hospital. Starting in 2021, he filled in as the troubled prince for Marcus Coloma when Coloma was sidelined with COVID-19. It was Huss who played Nikolas' final scene earlier this year in February when it was revealed that Nikolas was in a coma and being held captive by Mason Gatlin (Nathanyael Grey). While it was expected that Nikolas would eventually return, no one expected it to unfold as a Thursday cliffhanger.
When Huss exited GH earlier this year, he said that he was definitely interested in returning. "I would be so honored to be asked back to that show. I love every ounce of it. I feel like soap operas are sort of the unsung hero [of entertainment]. I love the work that I got to do there," Huss told Soap Opera Digest at the time.

GH isn't Huss's first daytime rodeo. In 2002, Huss appeared on CBS' The Bold and The Beautiful as Lance, a character who had infamously met his doom at the hands of Shelia Carter when she unleased a swarm of killer bees on him. The actor also appeared as Miguel's double on Passions in 2006 and as an extra on Days of our Lives in 2002. Huss had also auditioned for various General Hospital roles in the past.
There are still unanswered questions, including how long Huss will be sticking around. There's a lot waiting for Nikolas in Port Charles. Nikolas has a new son that he never met, an older son that wants nothing to do with him, an ex-wife intent on selling his beloved Spoon Island, and a heap of legal trouble for kidnapping and imprisoning Esme Prince (Avery Kirsten Pohl) while she was pregnant with their child. On top of that, Nikolas' uncle Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) was revealed to be the one giving Austin and Mason their marching orders. Is Nikolas in league with his uncle or a pawn in Cyrus' war against Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard)?
Stay tuned because things are about to heat up.
