General Hospital has been on a rocky path for the past several months, and the ABC soap continues to spiral downward.
Bad news for ABC's lone soap, General Hospital: the most recent ratings report shows that the daytime drama has hit rock bottom in key demographics, ending up in fourth place for all four network soaps in important categories.
The numbers reflect the week of August 17 through August 21, and though the show held on to its spot as number three in total viewers (2,492,000), it fell short in the key women's demographics, including 18-49 (where it hit an all-time low), 18-34 (where it's been low for 18 straight weeks), and 25-54.
GH's ratings have been slipping for several months, prompting the powers that be to replace former head writer Ron Carlivati with new co-head writers Jean Passanante and Shelly Altman last month.

If GH doesn't improve its ratings soon, it's possible Days of our Lives will replace it in total viewership. As it stands, DAYS, which has just kicked off an exciting batch of stories for its 50th anniversary, is lagging a mere 88,000 viewers behind GH.
Why do you think GH is doing so poorly in the ratings? What specifically do you think the new writers need to do in order to turn the numbers around?
