All My Children fave Michael E. Knight joins General Hospital

Life in Port Charles is about to get a, um, tad more interesting. Emmy-winning All My Children favorite Michael E. Knight has joined the cast of General Hospital.

The rumors are true: All My Children alum Michael E. Knight has joined the cast of General Hospital. A rep for the ABC soap confirmed the news to Soap Opera Digest, saying "GH is super-excited to announce Michael E. Knight will be joining General Hospital!"

Knight is best known for playing Thaddeus "Tad the Cad" Martin on AMC off and on from 1982 through 2011. Knight's work on All My Children eared him three Daytime Emmys: Outstanding Younger Man in 1986 and 1987, and Outstanding Supporting Actor in 2001.

In fact, back in April, tongues were wagging when Knight popped up in an Instagram photo shared by James Patrick Stuart (Valentin Cassadine; ex-Will Cortlandt, AMC). Stuart said that one of his "dearest friends in the world" had dropped by for lunch. Stuart and Knight worked together for several years on AMC, but their off-screen friendship continued even after Stuart's alter ego was murdered.

In addition to his time in Pine Valley, Knight also briefly played Dr. Simon Neville on CBS' The Young and the Restless in 2015 and 2016.

It's unclear at this time who Knight will be playing on General Hospital. In theory, he could reprise the role of Tad now that ABC has regained the rights to both All My Children and One Life to Live. However, it seems somewhat unlikely. Regardless, fans will undoubtedly be thrilled with whatever character Knight ends up playing. Just don't expect Knight to be sharing the news on social media. The actor told Soap Central that the thought of social media was somewhat intimidating.

"Christian LeBlanc [Michael Baldwin, Y&R] tried to explain it to me, and he's actually really good at doing it. He said, 'Remember Michael in the old days, when we were starting out, we hired publicists for several thousand dollars a month to make sure our names were out there? Well now you can completely cut out the middleman. You are your own publicist.' And I was like, 'Wow, I don't want that responsibility. I have a hard enough time just being an actor!'"

A first airdate has not yet been made available.
