General Hospital EP teases heart-wrenching "what if" storyline, hellish villainy, and more

Buckle up, General Hospital fans, because executive producer Frank Valentini has previewed the drama ahead for the next couple of weeks, and it's going to be both nail-biting and intensely emotional.

ABC's General Hospital will be taking viewers through a roller-coaster of emotions in the weeks ahead. Hot on the heels of sharing teases about the Nurses Ball 2020, the show's executive producer, Frank Valentini, is opening up about what else is to come, starting with the emotional storyline involving Sonny (Maurice Benard) and his father, Mike (Max Gail).

According to a preview in TV Insider, Sonny will wrestle with signing a do-not-resuscitate order for his Alzheimer's-stricken father, which Valentini says prompts "a heart-wrenching story showing what life could have been like if Mike hadn't gotten sick."

Adds Laura Wright, who plays Sonny's wife, Carly Corinthos, "Sonny is really trying to make the right decision and wondering, 'Am I honoring my dad or am I killing him?'"

There is one good thing happening in Sonny's life, however: the recent return of his son, Dante (Dominic Zamprogna), who has been at a facility, trying to recover from PTSD. Unfortunately, Dante's return might throw a wrench into the life of his ex-wife, Lulu (Emme Rylan), who's now in a new romance with Dustin (Mark Lawson).

Speaking of romance, Valentini teases that the long-engaged Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) and Dr. Hamilton Finn (Michael Easton) "get to a new place in their relationship" -- though he doesn't specify exactly what that new place is and whether or not it involves finally tying the knot.

And last but not least, Valentini says that police commissioner Jordan Ashford (Briana Nicole Henry) will have to keep an eye on the villainous Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober), who "is going to make life hell for Jordan in a way she never even imagined."
