General Hospital executive producer Frank Valentini opens up about why the show had to let Rebecca (Hayden Barnes) go and whether or not there's a chance she'll return.
Shakespeare said parting is such sweet sorrow, but when it comes to daytime fans having to say goodbye to Rebecca , there's nothing sweet about it. The actress was recently let go from her role as General Hospital's Hayden Barnes -- a move that didn't sit well with many viewers. And the show's executive producer, Frank Valentini, admits it was a rough blow.
"It was really hard. All of her fans are upset, and we empathize," he told Michael Fairman on the fan favorite's exit. "We brought Rebecca on to the show in the first place. Hayden is a character the audience didn't have a connection, or any familiarity with, but I just knew Rebecca would jump right in with the story we were telling two and a half years ago and make it really work."
As popular as was, however, the time came for the show to part ways with the actress. But Valentini hints that her story may not be entirely over.

"Rebecca and I are close friends. She had great chemistry with Michael Easton (Hamilton Finn). This story had come to a natural end," he says, teasing: "Hayden could return... you never know what the future holds."
