Ousted GH head writer breaks silence

After weeks of silence surrounding the announcement that he has been let go from General Hospital, former head writer Ron Carlivati has finally spoken up about his sudden exit from the ABC soap.

The soap opera industry had an inkling that something was on the horizon regarding the fate of General Hospital's Ron Carlivati when the head writer's Twitter account was unusually quiet for several weeks. After all, the scribe is usually quite active on the social media site -- save for the past couple of weeks. But he has finally broken his silence and spoken out about his departure from the world of Port Charles.

"Thanks to everyone @GeneralHospital for 4 wonderful years," he tweeted in his first post since July 16. "And thanks to the #GH fans for all your love & support. It means the world to me."

News that the former One Life to Live head writer was let go from GH hit last week. Along with the announcement came word that writing duties will now be shared by co-head writers Jean Passanante and Shelly Altman.

"We are pleased to welcome back two esteemed writers to our General Hospital family," Vicki Dummer, Executive Vice President Current Series Programming, said in a statement. "Shelly and Jean's combined talents and experiences promise to continue the show's legacy of compelling storytelling that will resonate with our impassioned viewers. We're delighted with what they have in store for the show as they continue honoring the rich, diverse environs of Port Charles."

Prior to joining General Hospital as its head writer in 2012, Ron Carlivati worked his way up through the ranks at One Life to Live. Having served in numerous capacities, Carlivati was promoted to the position of co-head writer in February 2007. In June 2007, Carlivati was named sole head writer of the ABC soap. He remained in that capacity through the series' cancellation in January 2012.
