General Hospital star Nicolas Bechtel bids farewell to Spencer Cassadine, who he's been playing since 2013. The ABC soap has recast the character with actor Nicholas Alexander Chavez, who made his on-screen debut last week.
It's the end of an era for fans of General Hospital's Nicolas Bechtel, who has been recast in the role of Port Charles youngster Spencer Cassadine.
Bechtel, who took on the role of Nikolas' (Marcus Coloma) son in 2013, shared a goodbye message to fans that included a short recap of many of the "OMG!" happenings that Spencer has already experienced in his short life.
"Spencer suffered third degree burns at his own birthday party, spent time with the spirit of his Mother, ran away, was kidnapped, tampered with an election, and broke his legs skiing in the Swiss Alps," Bechtel wrote, adding, "It's been a great run... thank you for all your love and support."

As Soap Central previously reported, GH replaced Bechtel with actor Nicholas Alexander Chavez, who made his on-screen debut last week in scenes that confirmed Spencer is the one who has been secretly tormenting his dad and Ava (Maura West). There's no word as to why GH chose to recast the role, which many Bechtel fans hoped would forever be played by the young star, who practically grew up on the show.
Bechtel originally stepped into the shoes of Spencer in 2013, when he was just eight years old. The California native left GH in 2016 to focus on his role as Lewie Diaz on Disney Channel's Stuck in the Middle, but he continued to make appearances in Port Charles (the last one being in 2020) and thus remained firmly in the hearts of fans. Some of his other credits include American Crime Story, Girl Meets World, Rake, and Red Band Society. He also appeared on Days of our Lives as a kid named Josh in 2012.
Some of Bechtel's GH costars commented on the actor's goodbye message, with Eden McCoy (Josslyn Jacks) sharing, "Legend," and Brooklyn Rae Silzer (ex-Emma Scorpio) writing, "The best."
