Rather than continuing to air throwback episodes, ABC's General Hospital is jumping ahead to more recent times and hopes to start repeating the May 2020 episodes that aired just before the show's new material went off the air due to the coronavirus pandemic.
General Hospital has been airing throwback episodes since it ran out of new, pre-COVID-19 filmed material in May. However, the ABC soap opera is changing tactics a bit and has announced that it hopes to start repeating more recent episodes as a way to remind viewers of what happened during the final weeks that new material was on the air. The episode that originally aired on Wednesday, May 6, will serve as the kickoff point at which GH will start its journey back into the show's most recent new episodes.
Fans can look forward to seeing the May 2020 repeats beginning to air on Monday, July 13 -- though that date and the week's programming are subject to change depending on whether or not the soap opera goes into production this month. As Soap Central previously reported, GH has been eyeing mid-July as a restart date. If the show's plan is to seamlessly take viewers from their May 2020 repeats into brand-new material, it means that the series would need to have new episodes ready to air by Monday, July 27. Keep checking back to Soap Central for GH production updates as they come.
Meanwhile, keep reading to see the specific details of the soap's first two weeks of May 2020 repeat episodes. For your convenience, links to our original full-length recaps of each episode are also provided in case you want to make certain that you don't miss a particular moment or episode.

GH began airing full weeks of repeat episodes on Monday, May 25, beginning with three weeks of Nurses Ball moments that continued to June 12. The next week of throwback episodes, which began Monday, June 15, featured Carly and Sonny's romance, while the week of Monday, June 22, was dedicated to loving moments between Jason (Steve Burton) and Sam (Kelly Monaco). GH then decided to air two weeks' worth of episodes spotlighting Sonny as a father. Those episodes kicked off on Monday, June 29, and are scheduled to run through Friday, July 10.
As Soap Central previously reported, The Bold and the Beautiful resumed production in mid-June -- becoming the first scripted U.S. television program to do so -- but had to hit pause just one day later to work on its coronavirus testing protocols. It resumed production for the second time on Wednesday, June 24. The Young and the Restless had been eyeing Monday, July 6, as a tentative date to get back up and running but decided to push that date back to Monday, July 13, due to growing concern over an increase in positive coronavirus diagnoses in the Los Angeles area. There's no word yet on when Days of our Lives might return to production, but due to the NBC soap opera's advanced shooting schedule, it is still airing new episodes and has enough in the can to last until September.
