General Hospital's Genie Francis can't wait to have Jonathan Jackson back

Lucky and Laura will be together again when Jonathan Jackson makes his big General Hospital return this summer.

It's been nine years since Genie Francis and Jonathan Jackson have been together on General Hospital. Laura's son hasn't been seen in Port Charles since 2015; however, Lucky is set to come home in August, and Francis couldn't be happier.

"Dear sweet Jonathan Jackson, this show is so lucky to have you back," she tweeted on July 2. "I am overjoyed! Can't wait to work with you again."

Jackson was only eleven years old when he joined the GH cast as Luke and Laura's young son Lucky in 1993. He took the character through adolescence and left six years later after starring in the 1999 film The Deep End of the Ocean. He also starred in Tuck Everlasting in 2002 and has appeared in numerous television shows and films. Jackson reprised the role of Lucky from 2009 to 2011 before going on to a successful music and acting career with a lead role in the primetime series Nashville from 2012 to 2018.

During his 2009 to 2011 return, Jackson didn't work with Francis, which he discussed on The Daily Drama podcast when talking about his return. "When I came back, it was incredible, 'cause I got to work with Tony [Geary, Luke Spencer] again after all those years," Jackson said. "There's a very special thing about this medium that you can work with someone when you're eleven to 17 years old and then work with them again when you're 28...but Genie wasn't really there for those couple of years. I got to work with her very briefly in 2015 in those few episodes, but I always thought that I'd really like to get to work with her again. So, that definitely came into play. We haven't really had any substantial story together since I was 17."

The 2015 appearance only lasted a handful of episodes when Lucky brought Elizabeth's presumed-dead son, Jake, back to Port Charles after Lucky and Luke found him on Cassadine Island. Lucky quickly took off again when he thought Elizabeth was with an amnesiac Jason, a man who later turned out to be Jason's long-lost identical twin, Drew Cain.

When Jackson returns, Laura will finally have one of her adult kids in Port Charles with her for an extended stay. Sadly, Laura's daughter Lulu Falconeri has been in a coma since 2020, while her eldest son Nikolas Cassadine was recently transferred to a federal prison out of state.
