James Earl Jones receives Tony Lifetime Achievement Award

Guiding Light and As the World Turns alum James Earl Jones was awarded the Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre Award at the 2017 Tony Awards.

A daytime alum with perhaps one of the most recognizable and iconic voices received a prestigious honor at this year's Tony Awards.

James Earl Jones was awarded the Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre Award during the Creative Arts Awards portion of the 2017 Tony Awards ceremony. Many fans expressed their disappointment that Jones, a veteran of both As the World Turns and Guiding Light, was not given the award during the three-hour telecast on CBS.

Jones is the voice of Darth Vader, CNN, and former telecom company Bell Atlantic. He has technically completed the EGOT -- he received an honorary Academy Award in 2012, won a Grammy for Best Spoken Word Album for Children, won a Daytime Emmy and two Primetime Emmys, and won a Golden Globe. Additionally, he has received two NAACP Image Awards, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and numerous other awards.

One of Jones's earliest Broadway credits came in 1958's Sunrise at Campobello. Most recently, he appeared in the 2015 revival of The Gin Game and the 2014 revival of You Can't Take It With You.

The Tonys did make Jones's acceptance speech available online. You can watch it in its entirety below.
