Passions vet hired for new GH role

Passions and Loving vet Richard Steinmetz will join the cast of General Hospital this summer. The show has not disclosed who he'll play, but fans are already buzzing about the possibilities.

Soap vet Richard Steinmetz has been tapped for a new -- but undisclosed -- General Hospital role.

Steinmetz has two previous daytime stops on his resume. In 1989, he appeared as Jeff Hartman on Loving. From May 2004 through October 2006, Steinmetz starred as Martin Fitzgerald on Passions.

The Chicago native also has numerous theater and primetime credits under his belt. In addition to acting, Steinmetz has also played professional soccer and coached a high school football team.

Though a first airdate has yet to be made available, a General Hospital spokesperson tells Soap Central that Steinmetz's alter ego "will have big story with Sonny."
