With General Hospital's Carly Spencer suddenly single again, she's been making quite an impression on Agent John Cates.
Now that Carly and Jason have placed themselves firmly in the friend zone again and Drew has decided he is done dating her, General Hospital's Carly Spencer needs a new love. Enter one John Cates, a man she knows very little about but whom she rescued and was drawn to when she saw some thugs beating him outside the Corinthos Coffee warehouse.
After Carly brought him back to his room at the Metro Court, John started to see a whole new side to Carly, a woman who has been nothing but a name in an FBI file until now. A friendship seems to be developing between the pair. They spent a night talking and getting to know one another.
When they said goodbye the next morning, Adam Harrington admits that he saw something special in the scene.

"Isn't that interesting that sometimes with people, the one moment they actually show how they feel is when they know there's an escape hatch?" Harrington asked Soap Opera Digest. "They know they're about to walk away. So, it's almost safe in that moment to do it. I thought that was really special about how [the writers] handled John and Carly. Even the music in that scene was beautifully done."
For the last two years, Carly was only an abstract person he used as leverage to get Jason to do the FBI's bidding. Now that she is very real, Harrington expects John to be even more torn between seeing Carly as only a means to an end and connecting with her on a personal level.
"Oh, that's already happened," Harrington said. "I mean, the history with Jason and what's gone on in the last two years... who Carly was to John on paper as just a tool to be used as bait is starting to get very complicated."
What happens when Carly learns that John is the man who kept Jason away from Port Charles for the last two years? How will John explain himself to his new "friend"? Stay tuned to find out.
