While his two most memorable soap roles were abusive fathers, Beth Raines Spaulding's stepfather on GL and Angel Lange Snyder's father on ATWT, Rebhorn was known in real life for his kindness.
Tina Sloan, who played Rebhorn's character's wife on GL, remembered her former co-star on Twitter, saying, "I just returned from Rio to learn Bradley Raines, the wonderful Jim Rebhorn had died. RIP Jim, the kindest best man playing the evilest on GL."
Another fellow soap actor, Vincent Irizarry (ex-Brandon "Lujack" Luvanoczeck) said, "Deeply sorry 2 hear of James Rebhorn's passing. Dear, dear man, wonderful actor. Ur light & gift will b truly missed."
"James was such a gentle, sweet man -- that's the proof of what a great actor he was," Judi Evans (ex-Beth Raines) told Soaps In Depth.
Rebhorn is survived by his wife, Becky, and two daughters, Hannah and Emma.
