General Hospital's Alexis Davis has played reporter long enough. Now it's time for her to return to doing what she does best.
General Hospital's Alexis once ate and breathed law. The character was introduced to the soap in 1996 as a high-powered attorney, and she remained that way until 2020, when her law license was revoked for lying to a New York medical board about her relationship with Dr. Neil Byrne.
Alexis' non-lawyer status wasn't noticed much until 2022, because she spent some time battling alcoholism -- and had a prison stint. After a drunk Alexis stabbed Dante with a syringe, thinking Dante was hurting Sam, she first ended up in Pentonville and, later, Spring Ridge.
Once released, Alexis needed a new career, so, with absolutely no journalism experience whatsoever, she became editor in chief of the Invader, a newspaper known for gossip that she tried to turn into a respectable publication.

The problem was -- the whole thing fell flat. Alexis as a reporter made absolutely no sense, and she lost some of that flair that made her such a cutthroat lawyer. It didn't help that half the town kept coming to her for legal advice, reminding us that the character was supposed to be an attorney and was just cosplaying as a journalist.
Watching Alexis walk right into a role she knew nothing about that didn't suit her took Alexis out of her element. Every time we watched her in the Invader office, it felt like watching a stranger and not a character we have loved for more than two decades.
On top of that, Alexis barely had a story of her own during this time and instead became more of a sounding board for Gregory and his health issues.
Now, Gregory has quit, and Alexis freely admits this is not what she wants. With Diane offering to help her get her law license back, are we going to get the lawyer who would fight for a woman's right to breast-feed in public? The one who championed lost causes, taking on pro bono work? The one who once did as good a job defending the mob as her BFF Diane?
Fans sure hope so, as evidenced by Nancy Lee Grahn's X (formerly known as Twitter) post in February. She specifically asked fans if Alexis should be a lawyer again, and the answer was a resounding yes -- with more than a thousand followers responding. So, let Diane work her magic and make Alexis a lawyer again NOW!
