Bernard was born on May 26, 1959, in Gladewater, TX, and began her career with episodic TV roles in the early 1980s. She appeared on such popular shows as Simon and Simon, The Facts of Life, and Tour of Duty.
In 1984, Bernard landed the role of Terry Brock on General Hospital, the singing daughter of Bobbie Spencer's abusive husband D.L. Brock. Terry's love interest on GH was Kevin O'Connor, who she married in February 1986. She was also involved in storylines featuring two current longtime GH characters, Anna Devane and Lucy Coe. After Duke's presumed death in 1989, Anna sold Duke's club to Terry. Frisco Jones performed at the club's reopening.
In the years since her run on GH, Bernard seemed to disappear from the acting scene with her last credit coming in 2002 for her role as a psychologist in the film Voices from the High School.
