Positive COVID-19 test sidelines GH's Réal Andrews

Just as beloved General Hospital star Réal Andrews has returned as Marcus Taggert, the actor reports that he tested positive for COVID-19. He has since tested negative but still must sit out going back to work for the time being.

General Hospital may be forced to once again reshuffle behind-the-scenes scheduling due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Actor Ral Andrews (Marcus Taggert) has tested positive for COVID-19 and shares that he won't be back on set for at least another ten days.

"Okay, so I tested positive the other day, which really sucks," the actor revealed in an Instagram video. "But then it was a false positive because the next day I went I got a negative and a negative, but it still makes me have to sit out for ten days."

As is the case for all television series, GH has strict COVID-19 safety protocols in place to protect its cast and crew, which is why Andrews won't be able to resume the role of Taggert until sometime in March at the earliest. And that is quite sad news for the actor's fans, who were deprived of his presence in Port Charles last winter, when GH temporarily recast the role of Taggert with actor Asante Jones. Andrews just got back to work as the character in January, so it's unclear how GH will handle his necessary time away from the series this time.

"I'll keep you up to speed," Andrews promises. "I didn't come in and tell you about it right away because obviously I was just devastated and frustrated, but I'm going to keep you in the loop, let you know how it goes... But that's where we're at right now. Taggert is sitting out on the sidelines."

Around the same time that Andrews was recast last winter, his GH costar Briana Nicole Henry (Jordan Ashford) tested positive for COVID-19 and was temporarily replaced with actress Tiffany Daniels. Whether or not GH will temporarily recast Andrews has yet to be announced.
