Big things are happening on General Hospital, and Evan Hofer is sharing some juicy details about what Dex Heller will face when Sonny Corinthos zeroes in on Dex as the enemy within.
Trouble is brewing on General Hospital for Dex Heller (Evan Hofer) as Port Charles's resident mob boss Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) zeroes in on Dex as the possible mole helping an enemy with deadly intentions. As Friday's episode drew to a close, Sonny's right hand, Brick (Stephen A. Smith), paid Sonny a visit to share some incriminating information about Dex -- namely, a sizeable wire transfer of money that viewers know was sent by Sonny's son Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell). Will Dex be able to walk away, or will he pay with his life for secretly working for Michael?
The moment of truth reportedly starts when Sonny's bodyguard Frank (Frank Lyon) grabs Dex off the street and shoves him into Sonny's waiting car. Dex is immediately on alert when he comes face-to-face with a stormy Sonny because it's clear that it's not a social call. In an interview with Soap Opera Digest, Heller explains that Dex initially assumes that Sonny is on edge because Sonny has a lot going on. Sonny's marriage to Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) is in shambles, several attempts have been made on his life over the past year, and Sonny's beloved nephew Spencer Cassadine (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) was presumed dead after a violent encounter with Esme Prince (Avery Kristen Pohl) in Paris. Heller reveals that Dex's secret pact with Michael is always in the back of his mind because Dex knows that it could blow up in his face if Sonny were ever to learn about it.
Initially, Dex was hired by Michael to gather evidence against Sonny that Michael intended to hand over to the Justice Department in the hopes of sending Sonny to jail. However, after Dex finally obtained the key to Sonny's downfall -- a video recording of Sonny facilitating an illegal arms shipment -- Michael's sick wife persuaded her husband to forgive his father and not use it. In the end, Michael gave the evidence to his mother because Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) had landed in legal hot water with the SEC. Instead, Carly opted to destroy the jump drive, and both she and Michael asked Dex to keep working for Sonny with a new mission -- safeguard Sonny from harm.

Dex knew it was a risky mission because Sonny would see it as a betrayal. According to Hofer, Dex assumes that Sonny is on edge because of the recent attempt on Sonny's life when a sniper opened fire on Sonny during a getaway to Sonny's island in Puerto Rico. However, Dex quickly realizes that he's the one who is in serious trouble when the car pulls away and Sonny begins to talk about the importance of loyalty. "He's been around Sonny long enough, certainly, that he can read between the lines of what Sonny means by that," Hofer explains.
The actor reveals that Dex tries to assure Sonny that he's loyal, but things take an ominous turn when the car comes to a halt at the infamous Pine Barrens, where Sonny buries the bodies of his enemies. Dex quickly realizes that Sonny has uncovered his secret, which Sonny confirms. "Dex doesn't want to try to feed Sonny any sort of line, feed him anything that's not true, because he knows there's no point," Hofer explains. Instead, Dex will try to convince Sonny that he's not the enemy and that there is more to the story, but Sonny is only interested in knowing who Dex is working for.
Hofer admits that Dex will find himself in an impossible situation because saving himself means betraying Michael and Michael's sister Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy), the woman Dex loves. "He comes to an acceptance that his love for these other people outweighs his desire to save his own life," Hofer said.
Hofer doesn't reveal what happens next, but he teases that it will be a big turning point that will blow up a lot of stuff for a lot of people.
