General Hospital head writers Chris Van Etten and Dan O'Connor spill details about the drama they've got planned for February Sweeps, including "a twist nobody will see coming."
Brace yourselves for a wild ride, General Hospital fans, because head writers Chris Van Etten and Dan O'Connor tease that they're cranking up the drama several notches for February Sweeps.
The first way they're amping up the excitement is by introducing a major twist that they tease to She Knows "nobody will see coming." Unfortunately, the pair did not elaborate on any additional details about that particular twist, but they were happy to open up about some of the other storylines viewers can expect.
Everyone in Port Charles currently believes Sonny (Maurice Benard) to be dead, and Cyrus (Jeff Kober) has jumped at the chance to take advantage of the situation. But he's going to find that Sonny isn't so easy to replace.

"Cyrus sees Sonny's death as a major opportunity to strengthen his hold on Port Charles," reveals Van Etten. "But he's quickly learning that it may not be as easy to simply step into that void as he thought it would be."
As for Sonny, the writers tease that it might be a long time before the amnesiac gets back to Port Charles because "he may not want to find out more about the man he was before the accident."
That will leave Carly (Laura Wright) and Jason (Steve Burton) holding down the fort for now, but the latter may have his attention pulled elsewhere as he continues to quarrel -- and then possibly connect -- with Britt (Kelly Thiebaud).
"I think that they do create sparks when they butt heads," agrees O'Connor. "They may even spark a fire if they look at each other in a new light."
Elsewhere on the canvas, watch for Nikolas (Marcus Coloma) and Ava (Maura West) to finally throw caution to the wind and admit that they truly care for one another. However, Van Etten teases, "If you ask what's heading their way, I'd say 'something wicked!" After all, he points out, there are a lot of Port Charles residents who have reason to feel as if neither Nikolas nor Ava is worthy of a happy ending.
