It's a recast no one saw coming: General Hospital has quietly welcomed home John "Jagger" Cates -- but with a new actor playing the role.
In one of the more shocking casting moves in recent years, General Hospital has recast the role of John "Jagger" Cates.
With no advanced fanfare, Adam J. Harrington made his debut on Friday, February 2.
It's been nearly 30 years since "Jagger" was last seen on General Hospital. Antonio Sabato, Jr., played the role from 1992 to 1994. Sabato made additional appearances in 1995 and in the GH spinoff Night Shift in 2008.

It should be noted that the character will now be referred to as John, and not his nickname of Jagger. To familiarize yourself with the character's history, be sure to check out our Who's Who in Port Charles character profile.
Harrington has previously played an FBI agent, but in primetime. He appeared in a handful of episodes as FBI Agent Jack Brenner on Bosch and as Agent Ray Walker in Dexter. Some of Harrington's other credits included Criminal Minds, Parks and Recreation, Queer as Folk, and Supernatural.
It is unclear how long Harrington's John Cates will be sticking around. A GH spokesperson declined comment.
UPDATE (February 5, 2024): Since this article was posted, Antonio Sabato, Jr., has commented on General Hospital's decision to recast Jagger. You can read what he had to say here.
