GH star opens up about painful weight loss struggle

General Hospital's Genie Francis (Laura Spencer) admits to a deep pain that has plagued her since she and her daytime alter ego were teenagers.

Fan favorite General Hospital star Genie Francis' (Laura Spencer) has made it no secret that she's struggled with her weight for most of her life, and she has even become a spokesperson for Nutrisystem, a program that has helped her shed over 40 pounds. But the journey hasn't been easy, which she shares in a new Entertainment Tonight video.

"The hardest thing for me about my weight loss was at 14 years old, going in to work at General Hospital, and they decided to put Laura 'on a diet,'" she explains. "It was very hard for me as a very young girl to be put on a diet on TV, and that made me very insecure. That's how my body image, how it began. I have been on every diet there is, every fad crazy diet. I've been in pain about my body and my weight all my life."

Fortunately, the actress seems to have come into a happy place with both her body and her eating habits with the Nutrisystem diet. "You can't change by thinking," she shares in the video. "You can change by doing."
