GH turns 60 with the return of Jane Elliot, the Nurses Ball, and a tribute to Sonya Eddy

General Hospital will mark its historic 60th anniversary in April, and ABC is preparing a pretty incredible celebration.

General Hospital will celebrate its 60th anniversary on April 1, 2023, and ABC is set to present the cast and crew with a stage dedication on the Prospect Studios lot, permanently commemorating the show's legacy and serving as a reminder of the history that has been made in that very spot.

In the lead-up to the show's big anniversary, GH will air a very special episode at the end of March, honoring the late Sonya Eddy. Eddy played GH head nurse Epiphany Johnson from 2006 until her unexpected passing last month at the age of 55.

Then, starting the week of April 3, the Nurses Ball will return with all of its red-carpet fashion and musical performances. This will mark the first time the Nurses Ball has aired since 2020.

In case that isn't enough, April will also see the return of the legendary Jane Elliot, who will reprise her role as Tracy Quartermaine on April 17. Details are still scarce at the moment, but GH hints that Tracy's return could be part of a plan "to stop a legendary threat from the past." Elliot made her debut as Tracy in June 1978. She announced her retirement from the show in 2017, but the actress has made a couple of special appearances since then.

General Hospital was created by husband-and-wife soap writers Frank and Doris Hursley. Frank Valentini is the executive producer and showrunner. Chris Van Etten and Dan O'Connor are co-head writers.
