Mugler has officially announced Miguel Castro Freitas as its new Creative Director. The announcement was made on Instagram on March 25, where the brand wrote,
"Mugler is delighted to announce the appointment of Miguel Castro Freitas as the new Creative Director for the house."
They further captioned Freitas's words by adding,
"It is an honour to join the spectacular house of Mugler. As one of the 20th century’s great couturiers, Mr. Mugler reimagined the power and limits of fashion. Alongside the teams, I am thrilled to bring my own vision, story and emotion to this monumental heritage."
Freitas will be succeeding the former creative designer, Casey Cadwallader, and will start his position as Mugler’s creative director on April 1.

Miguel Castro Freitas is a Portuguese designer, graduated from Central Saint Martins, who has previously worked at Sportsmax, Dior, and Dries Van Noten. In the past, he has worked with three major brands, including Dior under John Galliano, Lanvin under Alber Elbaz, and YSL with Stefano Pilati, which added to his experience.
He later served as Head of Women's Wear at Dries Van Noten, the Belgian fashion designer, and Head of Tailoring at Christian Dior under Raf Simons, another Belgian designer.
Danièle Lahana-Aidenbaum, the current Global President of Mugler fashion and fragrance, also added,
"Miguel lives and breathes the Mugler spirit. His deep understanding of Mugler’s DNA and his vast creativity and talent made him a natural choice."
Details about the previous creative director of Mugler
Casey Cadwallader, the previous Creative Director of the brand, joined Mugler in 2017. He previously worked at Acne Studios AB as a Head Designer, Narciso Rodriguez as a Design Director, J. Mendel as a Director of Design, Loewe as a Head of Women’s Ready-to-Wear Design, and TSE as a Designer.
Casey Cadwallader also talked about femininity on the brand's website, highlighting Mugler’s support for women by adding,
"Femininity means everything now. it’s a spectrum in which women choose the way they present to express what they are here to do on the planet"
One of his most famous projects includes designing outfits for Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion in the WAP music video, which garnered attention from fashion lovers.
Casey also thanked Mugler for the position by adding,
"Mugler is like no other, and it was exciting to lean into all that it could mean in today’s culture. I am forever grateful to my team, collaborators and friends, whose support and talent made this vision come to life."
Miguel Castro Freitas' first collection for Mugler will debut at Paris Fashion Week for the Spring/Summer 2026 season. The event is expected to take place in September or early October 2025.
