Jean Paul Gaultier has named Duran Lantink as their permanent creative director. He is the first person to take on this official position after Gaultier’s retirement. The announcement was made on April 15 on the brand's social media accounts, where Jean Paul Gaultier wrote,
"I see in him the energy, audacity, and playful spirit through fashion that I had at the beginning of my own journey: the new enfant terrible of fashion. Welcome, Duran."
After the announcement, Duran also uploaded a post, thanking Jean Paul Gaultier by saying,
"I consider Jean Paul Gaultier as a genius and part of a generation that kicked down doors, so people like us can walk through them freely and be who we are without apology. To step now into the role of Creative Director is a true honor."
Duran Lantink is a Dutch fashion designer who is loved in the fashion industry for his avant-garde and sustainable designs. The thirty-seven-year-old is a graduate of the Sandberg Instituut. The designer has worked with many big celebrities, including Beyoncé and Billie Eilish, in the past. He is also a winner of the International Woolmark Prize and the Karl Lagerfeld Special Jury Prize.
Duran Lantink held his first fashion show at the age of 15
Duran Lantink's fashion is known for serving sustainability and using recycled clothes. In an interview with Fantastic Man, the fashion designer revealed that he held his first fashion show at the age of fifteen. He further gave the complete details of the show by saying,
"I held my first fashion show when I was 15, on the beach in Scheveningen. I’d taken my stepfather’s pile of discarded Diesel jeans, took the waistbands, and my grandmother’s tablecloths, and combined them into short skirts. I’d borrowed a bunch of Dolce & Gabbana studded pumps at this shop, De Rode Loper, in The Hague. It looked great! A huge success!"
Duran Lantink became famous in 2018 after designing the vagina pants for Janelle Monáe’s music video Pynk. He almost said no to the project but was convinced by a friend to do it. The designer was given five days to make the pair, which later became a big hit, giving Lantink a lot of opportunities afterward.
He started his own fashion label in 2019 and delivered a mix of unusual shapes and styles with a focus on sustainability. As of 2025, he has presented several collections at fashion shows, including his Spring/Summer 2025 collection at Paris Fashion Week.
Duran’s first ready-to-wear collection with Jean Paul Gaultier will be showcased in Paris at the Women’s Fashion Week in September. In January 2026, he will present his first haute couture collection as the creative director of the brand.
