Hermes Birkins are some of the most sought-after fashion items in the world. They are epitomes of luxury and have been sold for as high as $500,0000. According to Sotheby’s, a leather Birkin purchased directly at the store may sell for $9,000. Many consider them investment pieces, and Jess Hilarious seems to think so, too.
Jess Hilarious was a guest on the Club Shay Shay podcast on March 26, 2025. The Breakfast Club co-host aired her opinion on several topics and revealed that she had a collection of Birkin bags that she considered investment pieces. Jess, dressed in a floral silk jacket and dark green pants, was asked by host Shannon Sharpe about her earnings as a host on The Breakfast Club:
“The Breakfast Club’s cheque hits different. What’s the first thing you bought with that money?” Shannon asked.
Jess revealed that her earnings from the podcast show were mostly untouched in her bank account:
“That’s the account I don’t touch....I have six Birkins already, and that was before Breakfast Club,”
She added:
"Those are investment bags, snakeskin, hello...yeah, them $70,000 bags, $80,000 bags. They them bags I plan to sell just in case. They ain't all for wear."
She added that she had stashed the luxury bags and planned to sell them when she needed to.
Are Birkins good investments? The luxury appeal of the iconic bag explored
James Firestein, founder of luxury resale and authentication platform OpenLuxury, stated that the resale value of these Hermés bags had risen more than gold in recent years:
"The resale value of particularly the Birkin and Kelly bags over the past 10 years has outpaced gold,”
The seasoned luxury market observer continued:
“I know several instances where people have doubled their money based on buying it 10 years ago and reselling it today in pristine condition,
He likened buying a Birkin to buying a Picasso and described the luxury bags as items that most people buy to look at and resell some years later. The reason for the high demand in the reseller market is that the bags are produced in limited quantities.
Furthermore, Hermés restricts the sale of the Birkin by limiting a client's yearly purchase of the bag to ensure exclusivity. This, in turn, creates a thriving resale market due to the demand-to-supply ratio.
