One of the latest announcements by the British Fashion Council (BFC) is the cancelation of the London Fashion Week (LFW) June edition. The fashion industry is tough and ever-changing, which is why this decision had to be made. According to the BFC, the cancellation of the LFW June edition is for the,

"vital commercial opportunities for British designers" - the council said.

LFW's June edition mainly focuses on menswear, and when it first came out, it was named "London Collections: Men" in 2012. Later on, the name was changed in 2024 for inclusivity, meaning showcasing both menswear and womenswear. But, over the years, fewer and fewer brands were joining the June schedule, which made people question its importance.

BFC had already canceled the January menswear event. Keep reading to learn why the London Fashion Week June edition was canceled.

More details about the cancelation of the London Fashion Week June edition

Besides the above-mentioned reason, there are more grounds for why the London Fashion Week June edition was canceled. Because fewer brands are participating in the June edition, the BFC feels like its focus should be on other projects that can help British designers commercially.

For this, the BFC is shifting its focus to more business-minded projects and will be a "catalyst for change." BFC plans to do this by providing British designers with more support to bring the fashion scene in the UK back to life.

One of the commercial projects includes the London Show Rooms in Paris from June 26 to July 1, 2025. Since the LFW menswear has been canceled this year, the showrooms will feature designs for this category.

The final announcement of the cancelation of the London Fashion Week June edition was shared with British Vogue by Caroline Rush, the outgoing chief executive of BFC. She said,

"By scaling back to more targeted programmes this June in London and Paris, we aim to create strong foundations to amplify the message of our brilliant British menswear businesses. We recognise the challenges the sector faces both in the UK and globally and remain committed to amplifying the voices of British menswear designers as they navigate an ever-changing fashion landscape and will continue to adapt and find ways to platform our brilliant British menswear business" - Rush stated.

Another spokesperson of the BFC also shared with FashionUnited --

"This June, our focus will be on championing British menswear and strengthening its presence both locally and internationally. Taking a digital-first approach, we will collaborate with buyers and media partners and leverage our own channels to spotlight the evolving story of British menswear, introducing and promoting designers to new audiences. This will be woven into our existing content streams, highlighting British designers presenting in other markets and exploring the evolution of menswear."

Even though the London Fashion Week June edition for menswear has come to an end, the BFC continues to provide its support to British designers and the UK fashion scene as a whole in other ways.
