Who is Moses Turahirwa? Fashion Designer's alleged attack leads to 3 Arrests as police investigates

Fashion designer Moses Turahirwa was reportedly attacked by a group of individuals on February 23, 2025. Turahirwa is a Rwandan native and the founder of the Moshions fashion label. According to a WWD report from February 27, 2025, Turahirwa, renowned for his creations that blend contemporary designs with traditional African elements, was accosted alongside his driver in Musanze, a district in the northern region of Rwanda.

According to a statement from his company, the district houses Moshions’ gorilla trekking camp studio, where Turahirwa creates most of his designs. On their way back from the studio, Turahirwa and his driver, who often doubles as his security, were allegedly attacked by a group of more than five or six men.

The company representative added that the suspects were armed with machetes and sticks and killed the driver’s dog:

“Moses said to him to let it go. Then after killing the dog, they came attacking to [allegedly try to] murder them too.”

ACP Boniface Rutikanga, Rwanda’s National Police Commissioner for Public Relations, stated that three of the individuals suspected of attacking the designer are now in the custody of the Rwanda Investigation Bureau and are under investigation.

A statement from the police read:

“Three individuals suspected of involvement in the assault on Turahirwa have been arrested and are currently detained at Muhoza Police Station in Musanze, pending investigation,”

A representative of Moses Turahirwa’s design company, Moshions, also stated that the police didn’t believe the February 23, 2025, incident was a targeted attack and that it might have been caused by a dispute over dogs and sheep in the community.

Moses Turahirwa is reportedly recovering from the attack and does not plan to return to his studio soon.

The Rwandan designer was born in Kigobora Village in Nyamasheke District, where he had his early education. He attended the Integrated Polytechnic Regional Centre in Rwanda, where he earned an Advanced Diploma in Civil Engineering.

He was recognized as Mr. Integrated Polytechnic, Kigali, and represented his country at the Mr. Africa International beauty pageant in 2014. He launched Moshions in 2015. His first collection debuted at Kigali Fashion Week in Rwanda before he proceeded to host runway shows in Nigeria, Namibia, Italy, and South Africa.

Moses Turahirwa has also been featured in prominent magazines like Jeune Afrique and Vogue Italia. He has designed clothes for celebrities such as John Legend, Ncuti Gatwa, and Paul Kagame.
