Fashion designer Jonathan Anderson, the creator behind the Spanish luxury house Loewe, has announced his departure. His exit marked the end of what could be described as a transformative phase for the celebrated brand. He remade the brand's aesthetic identity and world presence. Since Anderson joined Loewe in 2013, he has applied his unique style of melding artisanal craftsmanship with modern artistic sensibilities.

At the time of his appointment, Loewe was relatively understated within the LVMH portfolio. But under his leadership, it transitioned into one of the most inventive and desirable high fashion houses. His capacity to match history with modernism cast the identity of design for Loewe into a ground of creativity and opulence.

Details explored as Jonathan Anderson leaves Loewe as creative director

Jonathan Anderson surprised the fashion world by departing from his role as creative director of Loewe. Anderson said in a statement,

"While reflecting on the last 11 years, I have been lucky enough to be surrounded by people with the imagination, the skills, the tenacity and the resourcefulness to find a way to say “yes” to all my wildly ambitious ideas."

He added,

"While my chapter draws to a close, Loewe’s story will continue for many years to come, and I will look on with pride, watching it continue to grow, the amazing Spanish brand I once called home."

One of Anderson's major contributions has been the overhaul of the brand's visual identity. Partnering with French creative studio M/M Paris, Anderson introduced a new logo inspired by the German-type designer Berthold Wolpe. His collections exhibited an affection for the impeccable craftsmanship of a garment: for couture-level expectation and also for insistent detailing, bold silhouettes, and interesting combinations of material.

On March 9, Anderson shared an Instagram video reflecting on his time at Loewe. He highlighted memorable moments, such as designing Rihanna’s red outfit for the Super Bowl, Beyoncé’s bodysuit for her Renaissance World Tour, and fashion campaigns featuring Aubrey Plaza, Josh O’Connor, and Taylor Russell. He also showcased many iconic runway looks. Since he posted this video eight days ago, many people had already guessed that he might be leaving.

It means that LVMH CEO Sidney Toledano spoke highly of Jonathan Anderson's time at Loewe. Toledano stated,

“What he has contributed to Loewe goes beyond creativity. He has built a rich and eclectic world with strong foundations in craft which will enable the house to thrive long after his departure.”

In addition to fashion, Anderson acknowledged the brand’s creative side by including pieces from the Loewe Craft Prize, which he started in 2016. Loewe has not stated who will replace Anderson.
