From 2009 to 2014, Kanye West, nicknamed Ye, had a connection with the Oregon-based Swoosh label. During their collaboration, the two companies debuted their collaborative sneakers, Air Yeezy, in 2009, and Air Yeezy 2, in 2012 and 2014.

However, in 2014, Ye discontinued his association with Nike due to a royalty dispute, as the brand refused to pay Ye the royalties he demanded. Kanye's Yeezy eventually collaborated with the German multinational label Adidas.
