“Mugler was always so ahead of his time”: Fans react as Miley Cyrus wears Spring 1997 black Thierry Mugler dress for her album ‘Something Beautiful’

On March 27, 2025, Mugler’s social media page shared a closer look at Miley Cyrus’ latest look that she pulled off for her latest album, Something Beautiful.

The Flowers singer recently unveiled the album cover, merch, release date, teaser, and more details about her much-awaited album. Mugler offered the details about the outfits Miley wore for her new album.

Miley wore vintage Thierry Mugler looks from the Spring/Summer 1997 collection. The classic collection was titled “Les Insectes.” The fashion label released the original runway images along with a caption that said:

“Miley Cyrus wears a black crocheted dress with fringe and embroidery details from the Spring-Summer 1997 «Les Insectes» collection by Manfred Thierry Mugler for her new album, Something Beautiful.”

An entirely black dress featured a spider web-like mesh network spread throughout the body. The web is seemingly made with black beads.

Fans of Miley Cyrus were impressed with her black archival Mugler look. Consequently, they flooded the social media with their praises for her outfit and the designer.

One user on X commented:

“And looks so contemporary, Mugler was always so ahead of his time”

Many other responses to Miley’s look echoed the praise. While some said she looked iconic, others appreciated the intricate details.

“Incredible how this garment has survived you'd think it's incredibly frail,” a fan commented.

The Wrecking Ball vocalist also wore a white crocheted spider mesh hooded bodysuit for another cover of Something Beautiful. To complement her bodysuit, Miley also added a delicately designed headdress that featured beaded and feathery elements. This look also came from the classic Les Insectes Summer Spring 1997 collection.

For yet another look, Miley picked something simpler from Mugler’s archival collection. She carried an all-black look featuring a patent zipped box jacket and matching gloves. This look was presented from the brand’s Fall/Winter 1998-99 Lingerie collection.

She also sported a black and white furry jacket from the brand’s Fall/Winter 1997 collection for yet another look.
