The teaser for Weapons, Zach Cregger's mysterious horror film, will cause an eerie feeling to take over your body when you watch it. It does not provide much information regarding the film. The only thing the teaser says is that several children left their beds and ran out of their houses at 2:17 in the morning. For further information, it asks viewers to look up a particular website.
Zach Cregger, known for Barbarian, is the writer and director of Weapons and also the producer, along with Roy Lee, Miri Yoon, J.D. Lifshitz, and Raphael Margules. Viewers are loving the Weapons teaser, wishing more films' marketing campaigns were as good as this one. Weapons comes out on 8th August 2025.
What is Weapons about?
The Weapons teaser begins with a continuous shot. The time on the digital clock says 2:17. By the looks of the room, it is 2:17 am, and a child's bed looks unmade, as if the child got up and left the bed abruptly. An unknown voice reassures Mr. Graff, a parent, saying,
''Mr. Graff, I can understand your passion. And I don't mind having these conversations with you because God forbid, if it was my child, I'd be demanding answers too.''
Your first thought might be that a child is missing and has probably been kidnapped. However, the very next thing we hear on the Weapons teaser is
'Those kids walked out of their homes. No one pulled them out. No one forced them. ''
We learn that not one, but multiple children are missing, except they were not kidnapped. They left their homes willingly. The next scene shows a child running out on the street, their hands stretched out, as if they are running towards something joyful. In the background, we hear eerie overlapping whispers. Whose whispers? We are yet to know.

The Weapons then shows multiple children running out on the streets at the same time, running towards the same destination, but what that destination is, we don't know. A front door camera footage shows what we already know, a child running out on their own free will. No one else is seen in the footage, and we gradually realize that this is not a mass abduction. Or maybe not the kind we are used to.

The last thing we hear before the Weapons teaser ends is a voice asking,
''What do you see that I don't?''
You want more information on weapons, right? That's exactly the reaction the creators wanted from the highly praised marketing move they have pulled. To satisfy your curiosity, the Weapons teaser ends with a message on the screen.
''FOR MORE INFORMATION GO TO''
followed by a website address.

When you go to that address, you see what looks like a report written on the missing case. The report on the website created by Warner Bros. has the headline
17 Local Children Leave Home Simultaneously at 2:17AM
The report reads,
A chilling mystery has gripped the small town of Maybrook after 17 children voluntarily left their homes Wednesday morning. Authorities are baffled by the inexplicable disappearance, which has shaken the community to its core.
It is not every day that seventeen children leave their homes willingly at 2:17 am. No abductors were spotted in the camera footage, and no one forced them out. The Weapons teaser seems to suggest that a common force just compelled all seventeen children to walk out at the same time. The report continues,
Upon investigation, front door camera footage showed the children leaving their homes at 2:17am Wednesday morning without any signs of force. Since then, little information has surfaced, and the case continues to baffle investigators.
In response, a school gathering was held, where growing unease among parents became clear. As the town struggles to understand what happened, officials continue to urge the public for any leads, while Maybrook is left waiting for answers.

The report also has a few pictures from CCTV footage that night. The audience is further teased about Weapons by the additional link to another report called
Underground Prison Discovered in Rental Home
On clicking the link, you will be taken to an article that reports the incident in Zach Cregger's 2022 film, Barbarian. It talks about Tess Marshall, who escaped the eerie Airbnb in Brightmoor, Detroit. Besides, it mentions the
...network of hidden tunnels beneath the home, sparking questions about the property’s history and potential connection to unsolved disappearances dating back decades.
From the looks of the Weapons teaser and the two articles, the upcoming film is somehow connected to Barbarian, possibly set in the same universe. It also makes one wonder if Cregger is trying to create a horror movie universe that started with Barbarian and will be followed by Weapons.
Barbarian dealt with the consequences of a man kidnapping and raping dozens of women. With so many children disappearing at the same time and the hint that Barbarian might have occurred in the same universe as Weapons, we can expect the upcoming film to be a bone-chilling horror.
Weapons will star Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, Benedict Wong, and Amy Madigan. The names of the characters they will be playing are yet to be decided.
Weapons will release in theaters in the US on 8th August 2025. The date for an international release is yet to be revealed; however, it will be sometime in August as well.
