Zach Cregger's upcoming horror thriller film Weapons just recently dropped a full trailer. Following up on the success of his smash hit Airbnb horror Barbarian, Zach Cregger is all set to roll out Weapons, which has an August 8 release date in the United Kingdom. The film stars Josh Brolin and Julia Garner in the leading roles and features a strange case of missing school children centered around a fictional Pennsylvania town of Maybrook.
Here's everything that we know.
What's the latest buzz about Weapons?
Cregger has written and directed Weapons, and as the trailer reveals, the film will once again attempt to hit the high notes of horror and thrill. The trailer establishes the plot of the film quite well. When an entire classroom full of children mysteriously disappears, their teacher, Justine Gandy, played by Julia Garner, is pushed to the edge of insanity.
The entire community, including the parents of the missing children, chief among whom is Josh Brolin's character Archer Graff, pins the blame for the disappearance on the teacher. On the other hand, the trailer further shows children running around across dark alleyways, hinting that they might not be dead, thankfully, but may even be used for further sinister purposes. By effectively creating an atmosphere of fear and paranoia, the trailer superbly sets the tone for the upcoming film.
Zach Cregger opens up about Weapons and his career in general
Zach Cregger hails from Virginia and rose to prominence as a part of the comedy group Whitest Kids U' Know. He recently gave an exclusive interview to Entertainment Weekly, highlighting his journey behind making the upcoming film:
"I didn't have an outline. I didn't know what it was about, it was just like, let the movie show itself to me. I want to watch the movie as I'm writing it. It was stressful, People might think from the outside looking in that I was flinging dollar bills in the air and calling enemies and saying, 'F--- you.' The truth of the matter was it's a very high-pressure thing, and people were getting pissed and it was stressful. I didn't totally get to unclench and appreciate what happened until maybe a week later when the dust settled and the adrenaline subsided."
Speaking next about the structure of Weapons, the writer-director added:
"That mystery is going to propel you through at least half of the movie, but that is not the movie, The movie will fork and change and reinvent and go in new places. It doesn't abandon that question, believe me, but that's not the whole movie at all. By the midpoint, we've moved on to way crazier s--- than that."
Weapons will release exclusively in theaters on August 8.
