Universal is finally bringing back its horror genre with a Wolf Man reboot, based on the 1941 original movie, which starred Lon Chaney Jr. in the titular role.

After the failure of The Mummy, Universal decided not to invest in interconnectivity and shared cinematic universes and rather work on standalone horror films, which worked well for the Studios after the success of The Invisible Man.

Banking on this success, Universal Pictures partnered up with the Blumhouse Productions banner to bring back the Wolf Man movie, which will be released in January 2025.

Here is who plays the titular character of Wolf Man and other cast details for the film.

Wolf Man: Main cast and character guide

1) Christopher Abbott as Blake

Christopher Abbott is robbed to play the titular character in the movie. He plays Blake, who has recently relocated to Oregon with his family after his father is presumed dead, and he inherits his home.

Abbott's breakthrough role was as Charlie Dattolo in the comedy-drama series Girls. Recently, he starred in Best Picture nominee Poor Things and received a Golden Globes nomination for Catch-22. His other appearances include movies like A Most Violent Year (2014), It Comes at Night (2017), Possessor (2020), and Black Bear (2020).

Earlier, it was revealed that Ryan Gosling would star as Blake in the movie Wolf Man with Derek Cianfrance as the director. However, in December 2023, this decision was reversed, and Gosling left the film, although he is still an executive producer.

While no reason was given for Gosling's exit, Abbott was reeled in to replace Gosling, considering his experience with the horror genre. Soon after this casting change, Cianfrance also stepped down, and Leigh Whannell, director of The Invisible Man, directed the movie, which will be released on January 17, 2025.
