Avengers: Doomsday will take a while to hit theaters. Until then, Thunderbolts* is the MCU project the fans are looking forward to. That doesn't come as a surprise, considering the recent issues with their movies. They either received poor reception from the critics or the audiences. Marvel Studios has been banking its reputation on some shows, but they were not enough for fans looking for a big-screen spectacle. Of course, Captain America: Brave New World gave them that satisfaction to a degree. However, there were more low points than highs for its devoted fan base.

Thunderbolts* is taking them on a ride that looks characteristically different than the previous installments. The trailers promise loads of humor and anti-hero team-building in a style that doesn't look like what the studio has done in the past. One of their teasers also showed titles from A24 Studios that the MCU fans may not have even heard of. Perhaps that is Marvel's way to appease a different side of movie lovers. Regardless, it looks like an exciting opportunity for a soft brand revamp for this universe that might have gotten stale in recent years.

Before fans get the taste of Avengers: Doomsday, Thunderbolts* will present a refreshing team-up of characters who have appeared in the previous movies. There's Yelena Belova, there's Bucky Barnes, and there's Alexei Shostakov, among other characters that the fans loved to despise. They will now take charge of protecting their universe against a formidable threat from Sentry. Considering the recent cast announcement for Avengers: Doomsday, the Thunderbolts* will most likely tie into the fight against Doctor Doom.

"Let's talk facts. The Avengers are not coming"

The Thunderbolts* trailer begins with this exact dialogue from CIA's Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus). So, in the absence of these superheroes, some of whom died in the previous Avengers movies, a new set of heroes will emerge. They are being brought together much like the Avengers were. So, one of the speculative theories claims that they will be the new formidable team to fight evil.

Valentina's words suggest that the Avengers are unavailable to defend what needs to be defended. So, in the absence of this moniker, this new team will likely take the big risks in Avengers: Doomsday. That will be difficult to know for sure until the movie hits the theaters. However, based on Brave New World, it's clear that Sam Wilson's Captain America is ready to take the baton forward as the new leader.

It is unclear whether Sam will gather a fresh team of superheroes for his mission. However, since a new team is being formed from scratch, he might join them in some way. The recent Avengers: Doomsday cast announcement made another thing clear: Olga Kurylenko's Taskmaster will be absent from Doomsday, but Lewis Pullman's Bob / Sentry will be present.

Sentry is supposed to be a villain in Thunderbolts*. So, Pullman's presence in the Avengers: Doomsday cast list leads some fans to believe that he will not die in Thunderbolts* and might join the fight against Robert Downey Jr's Doctor Doom. Although Sentry is considered powerful beyond measure, Yelena might find a way to defeat him by being more powerful in the ways described in the original comics.

For now, fans will just wait and see how Thunderbolts* leads into the sixth phase of the MCU in Avengers: Doomsday.
