June 2025 will mark the tenth anniversary of Tom Holland's casting announcement as Spider-Man. The British actor made his debut in 2016's Captain America: Civil War. After that, he went on to make five appearances as the wall-crawler in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, respectively.
Holland, without a doubt, is an MCU veteran who is set to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, the currently untitled Spider-Man 4, and Avengers: Secret Wars. But the people are wondering whether there will be a fifth Spidey flick.
Back in November 2021, before the release of No Way Home, producer Amy Pascal confirmed plans for three more movies featuring the wall-crawler, with Tom Holland returning for the fourth one. While Spider-Man 5 and 6 were confirmed almost four years ago, it has not been confirmed if Holland will continue as Peter Parker in those films.
Spider-Man 5 and 6 status explained:
Erik Davis of Fandango interviewed producer Amy Pascal, who has worked on the Spider-Man movies even before the character appeared in the MCU, in November 2021. In that interview, Pascal confirmed that three more movies featuring the wall-crawler were under development and that No Way Home was not the last movie featuring Tom Holland as the character. Here's what Pascal told Davis:
"This is not the last movie that we are going to make with Marvel – [this is not] the last Spider-Man movie. We are getting ready to make the next Spider-Man movie with Tom Holland and Marvel. We're thinking of this as three films, and now we're going to go onto the next three. This is not the last of our MCU movies."
Pascal was not the only one from the cast and crew talking about the status of the 4th, 5th, and 6th films. In February 2022, Tom Holland was interviewed by Entertainment Weekly's senior editor Nick Romano. While promoting his then-upcoming Uncharted, the conversation veered toward the actor's future as the Web-Head. Holland said:
"We've had conversations about the potential future of Spider-Man, but at the moment they are conversations. We don't know what the future looks like."
In the same interview, Holland also revealed that he was sure Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal, and Tom Rothman were planning for the future of the character. However, the actor stressed that he wasn't aware of those plans. His exact quote was:
"But at this moment I don't know what that is."
So, for now, we don't know if there will be a fifth or sixth solo Spider-Man movie. But what we do know for certain is that the fourth movie will be released theatrically on July 31, 2026.
What will Spider-Man 4 be about?
For now, details about the fourth movie are scarce. However, we do know that this movie will pick up after the events of Avengers: Doomsday. Therefore, if Doomsday ends with Doom winning, then the fourth Spidey flick would be set in a world reeling from the impact of the Avengers' defeat at the hands of Victor Von Doom.
In October 2024, Tom Holland appeared on The Rich Roll Podcast and spoke about Spider-Man 4. Discussing the script for the movie and appreciating the writers, Holland said:
“We have a creative and we have a pitch and a draft, which is excellent. It needs work, but the writers are doing a great job. I read it three weeks ago and it really lit a fire in me. Zendaya and I sat down and read it together and we at times were bouncing around the living room like this is a real movie worthy of the fans’ respect.”
It needs to be noted that the movie will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who also directed 2021's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
There's no need to be disappointed by the lack of clarity regarding the wall-crawler's fifth or sixth movie. Holland's Peter Parker will still have a role to play in three upcoming MCU movies, the untitled fourth Spider-Man film, Avengers: Doomsday, and Avengers: Secret Wars.
