Ryan Coogler's Sinners is helping Warner Bros. achieve success at the box office shortly after A Minecraft Movie started reaching box office heights. Coogler's film has been a critical darling and has also received the audience's approval. So, with everything going its way, some might be hoping for a Sinners Cinematic Universe. It doesn't feel like a surprising ask, considering Coogler's successful history with the MCU.

Whether it turns into a cinematic universe is another matter, but fans have already started pointing out what can happen in a sequel or a prequel. Although there has not been any official announcement of this kind, there are already theories about what they can explore.

Is a Sinners Cinematic Universe possible? Theory explored

While some fans are speculating about the possibility of a Sinners Cinematic Universe, some others are poking fun at the expectation. In an ironic social media post, a meme shows Ryan Coogler standing in front of a screen, pointing to different possibilities for follow-up projects. One of the commenters thought that it was a genuine post and said,

"LEAVE IT THE HELL ALONE. Just let the one movie be great and stop trying to milk it for all it’s worth because of the lack of other original material in Hollywood."

Other users came up with some hilarious titles for potential sequels referencing older films to poke fun at the money-minting mindset mentioned in the earlier comment.

"No country for Sinners"

Another user said,

"2 sinful 2 serious"

Then, someone else said,

"Sinners v Saints: Dawn Of Music"

However, some other fans saw genuine potential in a follow-up. One of them wrote on X (formerly Twitter):

Renard’s comments hold true since we do not learn almost anything about the Indigenous vampire hunters who warn the Klans couple about Remmick. It might have made sense in the context of the film's storyline to convey their uneven societal dynamic. Still, there is potential to flesh out their rich backstories. It can also bring a chapter from the lives of this community, rarely explored on celluloid.

Others believe there is more potential in exploring Sammie's story after he escapes the savagery unscathed and becomes a Jazz legend. Some believe that a prequel can show the past of Stack and Smoke between the times they left Mississippi and returned to it. This chapter can explore how they got in touch with Al Capone and the potentially sinful motives to return to their hometown.

Wunmi Mosaku, who plays one of the leads, also chimed in on the possibility of Sinners Cinematic Universe during her conversation with The Hollywood Reporter. While referring to the film's ending, including its mid-credit and post-credit scenes, she said,

"It felt right to me, and it felt complete. It doesn’t feel like it means that there must be a number two. It feels like a complete and perfect script."

However, she leaves the door open for a potential follow-up, but only if Coogler thinks it warrants one.

"Ryan always impresses me, but I’d be so impressed if he was able to make a second film with as much powerful meaning. So I feel like he wanted to make a perfect cinematic experience, which I think he did, but Ryan can do anything. His brain thinks like no other."

After making his directorial debut with a low-budget indie film, Ryan Coogler found a footing in the MCU and the Creed franchise, offering them a string of successful movies. He decided to work on Sinners to get away from the same discipline. Still, the fans seem interested in more movies in the same universe. Ryan Coogler hasn't thought of a second or third part, per his interview with Ebony Magazine.

“I never think about that. I’ve been in a space of making franchise films for a bit, so I wanted to get away from that. I was looking forward to working on a film that felt original and personal to me and had an appetite for delivering something to audiences that was original and unique."

Michael B. Jordan also shared his opinion while speaking with Deadline. He is happy that their film makes people curious about the characters and their lives. However, he doesn't want to rush into these discussions either. The interviewer mentioned different narrative threads that a follow-up project can explore, but Jordan said,

“To me, what you said means we made something that will resonate with people, but it might be too early to get into all that."

Sinners is available to watch in theaters.
