Rebel Moon 3 has been generating buzz among fans of the franchise. Those who enjoyed the first two films—Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire and Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver—are eagerly anticipating what’s next.
Amid all the buzz and speculations, Patrick Luwis has dropped an update that might excite all the fans. Luwis, who has appeared as Ivar, has come up with something amid certain news that notes that Zack Snyder has canceled the franchise. The first one was released in 2023 while the second one came out in 2024.
Patrick Luwis speaks up about Rebel Moon 3
Patrick Luwis gave an interview to Screen Rant where he spoke about the future of Rebel Moon 3. The Cobra Kai actor mentioned that he would love to reprise his role in the third installment if it happens and he really had a good time doing the first two films. He said,
"I have not heard any updates, but again, something I would be [honored to do]. It was such an incredible experience working with Zack, and that whole cast and crew was one of the best experiences I've had on set. So, I would be thrilled if they brought me back for the next movie, or whatever they're doing. But no, I haven't heard anything, just waiting by the phone, we'll see. I've gotta really apply this [action] now, like, put me in coach!"
Rebel Moon 2 dropped hints for Rebel Moon 3
Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire, which was the first film in the franchise, was released on December 22, 2023. It concluded with Kora teaming up with all the rebels to confront the Imperium. The second film, Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver, ended on an unclear and cliffhanger moment. Zack Snyder has stated that a possible third installment might follow Kora as she is looking for Princess Issa with her people.
While Luwis is unsure, Snyder has confirmed that Rebel Moon 3 will be made. In April 2024, the director stated the same. He said,
"The story of movie three would be tracking [Princess Issa] down and finding out how [the rebels] can use the victory at Veldt to create a coalition of planets that were on the edge of rebellion, but have now seen the example of downing a dreadnought. Maybe now there’s an opportunity. It’s a chink in the armor. That’s really what it is."
Because the first two films have met with mostly poor critical response, it might take longer than expected for Snyder to get Rebel Moon 3 on the floor. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Snyder spoke about doing R-rated director's cut of the films in exchange for toning the film down to PG-13 for Netflix. He said,
“The director’s cuts really are the alternate universe version of these movies. They’re what I wrote. They’re much more mythological and much more tonally weird and much more the deconstructivist quality of the sci-fi universe that I intended,” Snyder admits. “I really wanted to make a movie that was much more Heavy Metal magazine than Star Wars, and much more irreverent than reverent. The PG-13 version is much more earnest."
