Will Daisy Ridley's Rey appear in the upcoming Star Wars movie? Here's all about the latest updates

Ryan Gosling will star in the next big space opera adventure, announced during the Star Wars Celebration 2025, which will also become the third standalone film after Rogue One (2016) and Solo (2018). Details on the plot for this Star Wars adventure are thin on the ground, except that the events are set five years after The Rise of Skywalker (2019).

Speaking of The Rise of Skywalker, that brings us to Daisy Ridley's Force-sensitive Rey — but no, she's not in this one. She was introduced in the sequel trilogy, going from a scavenger to a Jedi Master. It seems like we will see her reprising her role in her standalone film that Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is directing.

As for the upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter, Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine) is directing, and it is set for release on May 28, 2027. A year after The Mandalorian & Grogu, Jon Favreau (Iron Man) will be in the director's chair for this.

What do we know about this new Star Wars adventure?

Apart from Gosling and Levy's involvement, Variety reports that Oscar winner Mikey Madison recently passed on a role in the film. Other than Gosling, we don't have any details on the film's cast, though we might hear about it soon.

For Levy and Gosling, the film means a lot, as they spoke to the fans on behalf of both. He said:

"We're fans too... We know how meaningful it is. There's obviously a relationship between these stories and the audience, but we've spent our lives in that audience. We know how meaningful it is."

That looks like a couple of kids finally got to play with their favorite toy. It also looks like they're going to make the best out of it.

Do you know what happens before Star Wars: Starfighter comes out on May 28, 2027? Avengers: Secret Wars will drop on May 7, 2027. That gives the space opera film three weeks to break through the box office wall that the MCU film is likely to build during that time.

The last Avengers film made $740 million at the domestic box office in its first three weeks, and given that we have Avengers: Doomsday coming before Secret Wars, Starfighter may have to face a bit of struggle post-release.

In contrast, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker earned $463 million at the domestic box office. All in all, it grabbed over a billion dollars internationally; still, that's like half of what Avengers: Endgame (2019) earned and is currently the second-highest feature film in the world after James Cameron's Avatar (2009).

Though it was for its PlayStation 2 version (sorry, Xboxes and PCs, it was hard).

The story revolves around the planet of Naboo, where a greedy Trade Federation is seeking to invade. That's a story taking place far, far away, precisely before Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999), so don't get your hopes up that you might get some plot points for the Ryan Gosling film.
