Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy has brought Renée Zellweger back to the screen in a role that has become synonymous with her. It started in 2001 as a 30-something single woman's journey to lead a life beyond the usual pressures of marriage or motherhood. She fell head over heels for two men, and these romantic encounters shaped her life in a new direction. Bridget pointed out her fears, hopes, and desires in a diary and became a relatable figure for generations to come.

Nearly 25 years later, Mad About the Boy shows Bridget at a different point in her life. She found her love in Mark Darcy (Colin Firth), and they got married. Now, she grieves for this charming humanitarian rights lawyer who lost his life while on a mission. So, her journey is characteristically gloomier this time around. It's not just her who's sadder since the age catches up with Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant) as well. He lends her a helping hand while trying to improve his relationship with his teenage son.

Although a darker affair, Bridget Jones 4 is still charming as Zellweger's on-screen persona romances the idea of being with a man she meets. It isn't Mark or Daniel vying for her attention anymore, but two strangers who appear in her life in the vulnerable moments of her life. While the verdict is out on who wins her heart, it isn't clear whether Bridget will return for another chapter. There is no official confirmation about a Bridget Jones 5 film. However, when asked about another book or a film, author Helen Fielding shared a hopeful word.

"Never say never."

Bridget Jones started as a British journalist in Helen Fielding's newspaper column. It eventually got turned into a novel and a Renée Zellweger-led film series. For more than two decades, Bridget's character became the voice for women at different stages in their lives. So, it doesn't come as a surprise if these fans want to see another chapter of Bridget's life.

The recently released Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy is reportedly considered the final chapter of the series. This heartfelt film partially borrows from author Helen Fielding's personal experience of dealing with grief. So, Fielding would return for another chapter if the idea meant something special to her.

"This is not a reboot to make money. This is a story that just grew like stories do with novelists. So I would only ever do it if it’s that, not just because. It’s got to mean something."

Fielding told Variety, when asked, about the possibility of another Bridget-themed film or a book.

"I’m always saying, “Right, that’s the last one. I’ve had enough.” So I do like to be dramatic. But this book started as not a “Bridget” book, so I never really know what’s going to happen. There is possibly a musical at some stage. At the moment, I’m writing a very non-“Bridget” book, which hopefully will stay and not turn into another “Bridget” book. But I don’t know. The only thing I do know is there’s nothing cynical about this movie."

On the other hand, Renée Zellweger is also rooting for another chapter, according to her reaction during the film's Leicester Square, London premiere.

"Let me live in denial for a little longer."

The actress said during the reported final chapter of the Bridget Jones film series - while keeping her "finger-crossed" for a fifth chapter.

Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy is now streaming on Peacock.
