We got the latter two Bad Boys in quicker succession compared to the first two; now we are looking forward to Bad Boys 5. We don't know if there will be a sixth; if there is, then let's hope they'll be released in quicker succession than the latter two, but Martin Lawrence, who plays the well-meaning but cocky Marcus Burnett, is open to the films as long as the fans want them.
He was in a conversation with Entertainment Tonight recently where he discussed Bad Boys's future. To that, he said,
"It means a great deal to me because that was me and Will’s baby. You know, that’s what we started with. And to get four strong, successful films out of them, we couldn’t ask for much more. And hopefully, as long as the audience wants to see them, we’ll be able to put them out. [...] I think we gotta give you five. That’s what I’m thinking. […] Me and [Will Smith] haven’t talked about an idea or nothing, but the studio is."
His comment gives hope for another one, but it also tells us that's likely to be when they call it a day for good.
Winds are, sort of, in favor of Bad Boys 5
Last year, Jerry Bruckheimer, the franchise's producer, was in a conversation with Deadline. There, he told the publication that they may think about Bad Boys 5, but that'll depend entirely on how the fourth film, Ride or Die, performs. The film did perform well, earning four times its production budget. Now we just need to wait to see what Jerry will have to say about it.
However, that's not the sole reason to give a green light to Bad Boys 5. They need a good story, and we haven't heard a word on anything surrounding that. Here's how each Bad Boys film has performed to date, by the way.
If you've seen Michael Bay's Transformers, you probably know he could have just stopped with Dark of the Moon as the latter two films stretched the story unnecessarily, as did the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Interestingly, Bay was in the director's chair for the first two Bad Boys films.
This isn't the first time the fifth film in the series was addressed

Sure, it's important that the creators have enough capital to develop Bad Boys 5, but it's more than that for the protagonist duo, Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. They both have spoken about this before during a chat with Entertainment Weekly. And they both are down for more films.
During the chat, Will Smith explained why he wants to keep doing these films; he had one answer. He said,
"I never wanted to be one of those dudes who make sequels just because people will go. I want to make them because there is something to say and the characters have a place that they're developing to that will be interesting and fun to watch and maybe even a little helpful."
That said, despite how bad the fans want Bad Boys 5 to happen, creators should be down for it when they can give the audience something to keep up with the series. If they do, who knows, it performs so well that we'll get a Bad Boys 6, just saying.
